Week Ending March 1, 2017
My apologies for the delay in getting these DX loggings up on the MEDXR blog. Shortly after making these observations, I injured my lower back - very painful - and I have not been able to sit for long periods, and especially not near a computer! For the first time today, I'm able to tap out these notes for the blog. But I can't sit for too long, otherwise I stiffen up again. Anyway, enough about my problems. Here are some notes from earlier in the week:
4970 INDIA. AIR - Shillong. News in Hindi at 1736, ID and s/off 1741. Poor signal and a rather malnourished audio, Feb 24.
****5004.16v (approx!) MADAGASCAR. R. Madagasikara - Ambohidrano. Some seriously bad stuff going on this day (Feb 24)! Well down from it's usual 5007-5013 frequency range - I haven't heard them down this far before. First noted at 1755 with horrible audio. Malagasy chat and boppy music. Suddenly switched to a tuning tone at 1758 for around 30 seconds (there's nothing like a good tune-up in the middle of programming!!). Frequent short breaks in transmission, between 1759 and 1804. The usual and characteristic wobbly carrier heard when listening in SSB mode, but even more so on this day. Some hum on the audio (probably transmitter fault rather than a studio audio issue). More short breaks (5-10 sec) in audio at 1820. Looks like the technicians had their hands full for this broadcast! Don't mistake this as the highly irregular and only occasionally heard R. Bata!
5020 SOLOMON ISLANDS. SIBC - Honiara. Island pops at 1730 with occasional canned anncts (perhaps on auto pilot?), good signal, Feb 24.
5985 MYANMAR. Myanmar Radio - Phin Oo Lwin. At 1603 with a Burmese music program of light pops and only occasional softly spoken Burmese anncts. Rechecked the frequency at 1650 and still found it musicing away but with somewhat more traditional instrumental numbers. Heavy QRM from co-channel CRI-Beijing's Swahili service to EAf, but Myanmar was in the clear for three minutes between 1657 and 1700 when there's a break in the CRI transmissions. ID at 1658 then s/off at 1700 after national anthem. Feb 24.
6085 JAPAN. Shiokaze (Sea Breeze) - Yamata. Korean on Friday at 1626, talk with soft piano music in background, fair signal but somewhat muffled audio. Feb 24.
6110 ETHIOPIA. R. Fana - Addis Ababa. Just caught the ID and WWW address in either Oromo or Amharic at 1617 before a 2-minute spell of "dead air". Then news reports at 1620. Another 1-min interruption, then the program returned at 1624. Good signal with slight co-channel QRM PBS Xizang. Feb 24.
7480 PRIDNESTROVIE. R. Payam e-Doost - Grigoriopol. Farsi service to Iran at 1826, chat format and Farsi pops. Scheduled on Mon and Fri only. Feb 24.
7580 PRIDNESTROVIE. R. Ringinkaman (R. Rainbow) - Grigoriopol. S/on 1700 with Farsi talks and music. ID and address at 1706. Very good signal and scheduled Wed and Fri only. Prior to 1700, this frequency is occupied by VoA and CNR 1 jammer. Feb 24.
9800 FRANCE. R. Sawtu Linjilia (Voice of Gospel) - Issoudun. S/on 1830 in the Fulfulde language for WAf, talks and interviews. Fair signal, Feb 24.
11765 KUWAIT. R. Ashna - Umm al-Rimam. Dari service to Afghanistan at 1550, excellent signal.
11790 GERMANY. Bible Voice - Nauen. Amharic service on Friday at 1635 with preaching and occasional excerpts of music. Scheduled for Amharic on Mon/Wed/Fri and Somali on other days at this time. Weak signal on Feb 24.
11835 VATICAN. VoA - SM Galeria. S/on 1730 in Oromo to EAf, weekdays only. Good signal and // 12110 via Lampertheim but barely audible there, Feb 24.
73 and good DX to you all,
Rob Wagner VK3BVW
