STATION NEWS

AUSTRALIA
Reach Beyond Australia (formerly HCJB Australia) has just updated their original A15 schedule with a few small frequency changes. Thanks to Shelley Martin who is always quick to keep shortwave listeners informed of these things! As the whole document is too large for including here, I have put a PDF of the new schedule up at my Box.com account and you can download from there (small sized file):

USA
Thanks to Dino Bloise (Miami, FL) for alerting me to the new Radio Martí schedule for the A15 season. When reading this, note that the UTC times are listed along the bottom of the schedule and Cuban time is along the top!  Again, I have made this available from my Box account at:

NEW ZEALAND
The New Zealand Radio DX League is one of the oldest DX clubs around (established in 1948), and it's still going strong! In fact, back in 1969 NZRDXL was the first club I joined when I was a teenager! This month, they are offering FOR FREE their April 2015 issue of their New Zealand DX Times. In addition, they are also offering a fantastically low subscription fee for the remainder of 2015. A great deal!! For more details on their special subscription rate and downloading of their latest NZDXT newsletter, head to:

MICRONESIA
This morning, I received an email from my friend Ron Howard in California. He has just returned from some exciting travels in China. Apparently, he has missed turning on his radio over the past few weeks! Already he has heard two interesting items that we can share here!

4755.54, PMA-The Cross Radio. April 15 extended broadcast; heard before 1200 and as usual was off the air when checked shortly after 1200; so surprised to find they had turned the transmitter back on by 1228; on 24 hr.?; 1300 "It is midnight and this is the Cross Radio, 88.5 FM"; 1330 “The Cross  Radio is a Ministry of Pacific Mission Fellowship. Find us on the web at radio dot pma pacific dot org"; still on at 1427 (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA, E1 & CR-1).

PAPUA NEW GUINEA
7324.96, Wantok Radio Light, 1402-1424, April 15. One of their strongest receptions; mostly Christian songs in English; 1406 short bible reading; 1411 ID; rare to hear them at this level. Audio at https://app.box.com/s/pfumc8ajplesansldwx3cggqpladitvj  (Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA, E1 & CR-1).
Thanks Ron.

FROM THE LOG BOOK

At the moment, I'm preparing a big workshop presentation for my local photographic society, which is taking up more time than I originally intended. So, I haven't been on the bands much in recent days. However, here are a few observations I've noted:

7290   ROMANIA. IRRS - Tiganesti. English from 1800-1900 with music programming, news at 1830, full ID at 1835, good signal.

9839.86   VIETNAM. VoVietnam - Son Tay. English to Indonesia at 1020, into Indonesian at 1030. Good signal but off-freq.

11600.22  TAIWAN. Sound of Hope. Mandarin programming at 1050, weak signal but no jamming.

11840   GUAM. KTWR - Agana. Scheduled for 1000 till 1019 s/off in English to Oc, but noted s/off at 1026 with a strong signal.

11945   SINGAPORE. BBC - Kranji. English to the Pacific (rumoured to be aimed at Vanuatu) 1900-2000, very good signal.

12019.04   VIETNAM. VoVietnam - Son Tay. Off frequency as usual for the service to Indonesia at 1020, good signal.

13760   D.P.R.KOREA & CHINA. Madness here! Both VoKorea and CRI have moved here for their English services to Europe at 1800-1900. Both noted at 1840 with strong signals. Korea is a NF x 12015. China is strongest on the Twente receiver in Europe, Korea is stronger here at Mount Evelyn.

17730.04   GUAM. KSDA/AWR - Agat. English 1030-1100 to India on this NF for A15, fair.

21660   THAILAND. BBC - Nakhon Sawan. English to EAs at 1000-1100. NF for A15 season, weak and variable signal.

NEW MOVIE - "The Russian Woodpecker"

Critical acclaim has been heaped upon one of the winners of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The Russian Woodpecker picked up the major award in the category World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary.

The Russian Woodpecker / United Kingdom (Director: Chad Gracia) — A Ukrainian victim of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster discovers a dark secret and must decide whether to risk his life by revealing it, amid growing clouds of revolution and war.

The trailer for this film has just been released.........

A review for the film has been published on the Hollywood Reporter website, saying:

"Rightly singled out by many as one of the more arresting and formally inventive documentaries at Sundance this year, debutant director Chad Gracia’s The Russian Woodpecker offers a wild ride through Ukrainian and Soviet history, from the famines of the early 30s through Chernobyl and up to the present-day war with Russia."

One to watch out for when it comes to a cinema near you!.....probably an "art house" cinema!
