STATION NEWS
USA:A very interesting video was posted last week on the HamRadioConcepts YouTube page. Some radio enthusiasts got the opportunity to visit the transmitting site of WRMI, Okeechobee, Florida. There are some very impressive rhombic antennas and 14 powerful transmitters featured in the video. The visual footage is sometimes a bit shaky and fast, but the information will be of interest to amateurs and SWLs. There's also some humorous commentary at times. Worth checking out!
FROM THE LOG BOOK
Some more exotic DX logs noted this week: Indonesia on a revised schedule for Ramadan, some interesting Asian DX, and the two low powered Canadians making it to south eastern Australia for our mid winter!
👍3260 PNG - NBC - Madang. Nothing heard tonight at around 1000. Noted it around 1110 for several minutes and good strength, then it suddenly disappeared again. Tech problems or power outages perhaps....... Monitored the frequency till 1135 but nothing more heard on June 8.3320 SOUTH AFRICA. R. Sonder Grense - Meyerton. Pop music ballads at 2050 with Afrikaans anncts, fair to poor signal, June 15.
👍3325 INDONESIA. RRI - Palangkaraya. Noted at 2055 with pop ballads. Then a beautiful ID at 2100 as "Radio Republik Indonesia, Palangkaraya" and mention that the broadcast was for Ramadan. A partial pop song which faded into Qur'an recitations. At 2107, we were back into more pop ballads! Interesting mix! Fair signal, June 15.
👍3344.86 INDONESIA. RRI - Ternate. A weak signal at 2114 with a long Indonesian talk. F/out by 2125, June 15.
3955 ENGLAND. KBS World R. - Woofferton. German service to WEu at 2045 to s/off 2100, fair signal, June 15.
👍4875.24 BRAZIL. R. Difusora Roraima - Boa Vista RR. At 1002 with pop ballads programming and occasional canned adverts. Poor signal and faded by 1015, June 8.
👍👍5970 CHINA. Gannan PBS - Tianshui, Hezuo, Gansu Province. Managed to catch the s/on at 1020 with anncts and national anthem. Tibetan service with Chinese orchestral music programming. News reports at 1030. This is one of the few lower powered Chinese transmitters at 15 kW into a non-directional antenna. Not easily heard here and a weak signal. Nothing heard on its // 3990 outlet. June 8.
👍6020 UNIDENTIFIED. Believed to be Voice of Vietnam - Buon Ma Thuot with the Network 4 Minorities service at 1050. Two long traditional songs, then anncts and into a news report at 1100. Couldn't identify the language, definitely not Vietnamese. Very weak signal which made for difficult listening. This is sometimes heard with better strength here during the summer evenings. June 8.
👍👍6070 CANADA. CFRX - Toronto. F/in around 0515 with the usual early morning chatter, adverts and rock music. This is the earliest I have ever heard this station, and indicates that current winter DX conditions are very healthy to that part of the world. Weak signal but strengthened to a fair level over the next few hours, June 6.
👍👍👍6159.97 CANADA. CKZN - St John NL. Instrumental jazz music at 0555, canned annct for a program (didn't get the name….John something?) on Saturday mornings on "CBC Radio 1". News at 0600. Not often heard and I've never monitored it at Mount Evelyn until now. A very weak signal on June 6. And then again on June 7 at 0709 with a current affairs program focusing on the blockage crisis in Qatar. Slightly better signal on this day, but started to fade by 0745 (5:15 am in St John). Does pretty well for its 1kW output. A brief video log below:
7210 VIETNAM. VoV - Buon Me Thuot. Network 1 service in Vietnamese at 1045 with commentaries. Weak signal and runs // 9635.86 kHz (via Son Tay) where it was much stronger, June 9.
👍7285 VIETNAM. VoV - Son Tay. Laotian service at 1110 with mainly talk until 1128 when a Vietnamese pop ballad. EiBi is listing this as English at 1100-1130, and even the VoV website schedule says this! But not the case on June 9. Laotian running till 1157, then dead air till 1200 when into French. Poor signal overall.
7730 USA. WRMI - Overcomer Ministry - Okeechobee FL. At 0930, the Bro spreading the word, good signal, June 11.
9795 PHILIPPINES. FEBC - Iba. Vietnamese service at 1110 with talks. Good signal except for the usual siren jamming in the background, June 16.
👍9820 CHINA. VoBeibu Bay Radio - Nanning. Chinese pop music selections in the Cantonese service at 1125, fair signal but co-channel QRM from CNR 2-Xian. The // 5050 kHz was also heard but much weaker there on June 16.
73 and have a great weekend everyone!
