MORNING DX AT HARRIMANS POINT

Here's a quick report on an hour of DXing at Harrimans Point in central Victoria. This location is part of the Waranga Basin and Waranga Dam. I was on my way back home after a photographic trip and saw an opportunity to string out an antenna and sit by this large and peaceful body of water. No power lines around for kilometres. An electrically very quiet location. The radio in use is the Tecsun PL-680.

I was listening between 2240 and 2345 UTC (between 9:40 and 10:45 am AEDT), so the 49 and 41 meter bands were closing fast (The signals were literally vanishing as I was listening!!). But there was still some life left in the 31 mb before that band would also fold up for the morning.

Here's a video of a few 31mb signals heard towards the end of the listening session. And below the video is a summary of all stations heard that morning, including the fast fading 6 and 7 mHz signals. PLUS, there are some notes on the previous day's listening at Echuca, northern Victoria, between 0400 and 0500 (2:00 and 3:00pm AEST)

5890   SINGAPORE. BBC - Kranji. English WS to SEAs at 2240, weak signal.

6075   TAIWAN. RTI - Kouhu. Mandarin to EAs 2245 with CNR jamming, weak signal and // 6105 also with a weak signal and jamming.

6115   USA. WWCR - Nashville TN. American preaching at 2248. Weak signal.

6195   SINGAPORE. BBC  Kranji. English WS to SEAs at 2252, weak signal and // 5890.

7205   UAE. BBC - Dhabbaya. Very weak signal with English WS to Indonesia at 2256.

7215   CHINA. CRI - Kunming. Mandarin to Indonesia at 2257, weak signal.

7250   CHINA. CRI - Urumqi. Spanish to SEu at 2259, weak signal.

7265   CHINA. CNR 2 - Baoji. ID and news at 2300, fair signal

7275   KOREA REP. KBS World R. - Kimjae. Weak signal in Vietnamese to SEAs at 2304.

7315   USA. WHRI - Cypress Creek SC. Music programming at 2306. Weak signal.

7360   IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. Indonesian service with what appeared to be a religious talk at 2309. Very good signal.

9265   USA. WINB - Red Lion PA. American preaching at 2310, weak signal.

9350   USA. Overcomer Min via WWCR - Nashville TN. The Bro in action at 2318, good signal.

9395   USA. Overcomer Min via WRMI - Okeechobee FL. The Bro in action again, seemed to be // 9350, weak signal.

9405   PHILIPPINES. FEBC Bocaue. Mandarin to EAs at 2320, weak but clear signal.

9420   CHINA. CNR 6 - Beijing. Amoy service at 2324 (not Mandarin as printed in some lists), fair signal.

9450   A MESS!!  CHINA v TAIWAN v PHILIPPINES.  At 2327 we have R.Taiwan Int- Tamsui with Mandarin, plus CNR 1 jamming, plus FEBC - Bocaue in the Mien language to SEAs. All at equally poor signal strength here!

9460   CHINA. CRI - Kunming. Cantonese service to SEAs with Chinese pops at 2328, fair signal.

9475   USA. WTWW - Lebanon TN. American preaching at 2330, fair signal.

9505   USA. WHRI - Cypress Creek SC. American preaching at 2333, very good signal.

9510   GERMANY. Athmeeya Yatra R. - Nauen. In a minority SEAs language (listed on Sats as Limboo) at 2336, weak signal and some splash from 9505 WHRI.

9535   KUWAIT AND CUBA. R. Free Asia - Umm al-Rimam in Mandarin at 2340, with some weak co-channel QRM from R. Havana Cuba in Spanish to CAm.

9545   SOLOMON IS. SIBC - Honiara. Island preacher at 2345, very weak signal.

ECHUCA DX (by the mighty Murray River)

September 29, 0400-0500 UTC (2 to 3 pm local time)

7295   ALGERIA. R. Algerienne - Issoudun. Arabic commentaries at 0450, fair signal.

9410   AUSTRIA. BBC - Moosbrunn. Arabic to EAf at 0410 with news and occasional IDs, fair signal.

9455   USA. R. Japan - Okeechobee FL. Spanish to WNAm with current affairs at 0415, fair signal.

9490   GERMANY. R. Japan - Nauen. Japanese to ME at 0418, weak and fluttery signal.

9545   SOLOMON IS. SIBC - Honiara. Island songs and English anncts (some canned) at 0421, fair signal. Not heard at all in our winter afternoons, so nice to see it coming in again just past the equinox.

9550   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. Turkish to ME with preaching at 0423 until s/off 0429. Very good signal. Several lists have Bible Voice scheduled for s/on 0430 in Arabic to ME also via Nauen on Saturdays, but nothing noted on Sat Sept 29.

9600   VATICAN. R. Tamazuj - SM Galeria. Happy Sudanese songs at 0425, beamed to EAf, good signal. Then there's the R. Dabanga s/on at 0430.

9660   MADAGASCAR. Vatican R. - Talata-Volonondry. To EAf with Tigrinya prayers at 0427 to s/off 0428, fair signal. Then s/on 0430 in French to CAf with a slightly stronger signal (probably due to the beam heading change from 340˚ to 300˚.

9790   FRANCE / CUBA. At 0440 with RFI - Issoudun in French to EAf plus co-channel CRI - Quivican with Cantonese to WNAm, at about equal strength.

9935   GREECE. VoG - Avlis. Commentaries 0445. Strong signal.

9955   USA. R. Slovakia Int - Okeechobee FL. Spanish to SAm with ID at 0447, very good signal.
