RADIO AUSTRALIA SPECIAL EVENT STATION - (Updated)

RADIO AUSTRALIA
SPECIAL EVENT STATION
MARCH 14-15, 2020

With the kind permission of Broadcast Australia and many thanks to Rex VK3OF, there will be a Special Event Amateur Radio HF station set up at Radio Australia. The call sign will be VI3RA. This special event will be held on Saturday 14th – Sunday 15th, of March 2020. The event will be commemorated with a special QSL card.

Amateur radio operators are invited to register to be on-site to participate in this special event. Site restrictions limit us to no more than six on-site at any one time, so there will be a roster, and reservations for specific time slots are required. (via Shepparton and District Amateur Radio Club - SADARC)

Frequencies will be made available as soon as final testing is complete. We hope to cover most of the HF Ham Bands running three bands at once for the entire weekend. (via Rex James, SADARC)

UPDATE - (Feb 17, 2020):

A unique call sign has been issued for the event which is Victor India 3 Radio Australia – VI3RA. All contacts made during the 2-day event will be issued with a specifically designed QSL card. The event commences on Saturday 14 March 2020, 12:00:00AM AEDT(UTC+1100) and will end at Monday  16 March 2020, 12.00AM AEDT(UTC+1100).

Frequencies used for the event will be 7, 10, 14, 18, and 21Mhz.

Local Amateurs will be given the unique opportunity to explore the use of high gain antennas whilst giving Amateurs throughout the world a unique opportunity to contact a station using such high gain antennas.

This is a rare opportunity for amateur radio operators, who are only allowed a peak output power of 400 watts in Australia when compared to 100 kW of Radio Australia transmitters to hopefully achieve some remarkable communication outcomes. We expect to get a gain of 15dB on the lower frequencies’ and at least 20dB on 21Mhz.  (via the new VI3RA call on QRZ.Com)

73 and have a great weekend everyone,
