DX QUICK TIPS - June 24, 2018

Image
DX QUICK TIPS June 24, 2018 The winter solstice (June 21) has now past. Although reception conditions here were a little down today (June 24), generally there has been some pleasing DX heard over the past week. Stations on the 49 and 41mb have been putting in good signals during the early and mid-afternoons here (0200-0400) - something that you guys in the northern hemisphere take for granted, but which only appear for several months down here at the bottom of southeastern Australia. The domestic Latin broadcasters have been conspicuous by their absence again this year - very disappointing! I'm hoping for some improvement over the next month or so. We shall see...... 3255   SOUTH AFRICA. BBC - Meyerton. Discussion program in English at 1917, fair signal, June 20. 3260   PAPUA NEW GUINEA. NBC Port Moresby - Madang. PNG pop songs and community anncts in Tok Pisin at 1002, fair to weak signal, June 23. 👍 3325   INDONESIA vs PAPUA NEW...

A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF PROPAGATION  CAN REALLY HELP! (This post is an article I wrote for "The World of Shortwave Listening" column of The Spectrum Monitor magazine - April 2018 issue. Further details on this excellent publication are available at www.thespectrummonitor.com ) I am a member of many Facebook groups that focus on DXing and shortwave listening. These are fantastic sources of information and hot DX tips. And, some wonderful friendships are often formed through these groups. However, it is interesting to observe that many enthusiastic SWLs are not familiar with the fundamentals of how shortwave radio signals arrive at their receivers. This is seen in the occasional misidentification of stations made in their reported loggings. Often we see someone posting that they have heard a station on a particular fre...

A BUSH ANTENNA RESURRECTION

A BUSH ANTENNA RESURRECTION In this video, I return to the scene of last year's very successful winter DX monitoring at Mount Beenak (southeastern Victoria) in search of a random wire antenna left in the bush. 73 and have a great weekend everyone! Rob Wagner VK3BVW   Subscribe!! Follow @robvk3bvw
