Image
New pdf document available for immediate download: B13 SUMMARY OF SOME NEW FREQUENCIES As monitored and complied by Rob Wagner Over the past month, I have made a number of posts in the MEDXR blog about new frequency changes as observed here in Melbourne. In the last day or so, I have added even more NF's to the list. So, rather than leave all this information scattered in separate blog posts, I decided to bring it all together into one pdf document. If this is of interest and of use to you, then please click on the link below. It will take you to the download directly at box.com. The size of the pdf file is 176kb B13 Summary of New Frequencies Feedback is, as always, most welcome. 73 and have a great weekend everyone, Rob VK3BVW

LATEST New Frequency Discoveries!

5865   FRANCE.  R. Algerienne - Issoudun. Noted at 0605 with Qu'ran in a service to WAf. NF and a weak signal on Nov 26. 5910   UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.  BBC - Dhabayya. Dari service 1845, NF and // 5875, both freqs are well heard on Nov 27. 5910   AUSTRIA.  TWR - Moosbrunn. 15-min Polish service to Eu at s/on 0644. This is a weekday only service with a fair signal on Nov 26. 5925   FRANCE.  RFI - Issoudun. French to WAf at 0645, NF and // 7390, weak on Nov 26. 5945   OMAN.  BBC - A'Seela. English to ME at 1850, NF ex 7375 to s/off 1900. Appears not to be a great move considering that Romania is DRM on 5940 also in English to WEu at that time! I guess the only reason why I hear BBC is because Australia is far enough away from Romania to not have the DRM completely cover the next freq as well!. Nov 27. 5985   ALBANIA.  CRI - Cerrik. Just caught it before s/off 0657 in Arabic, NF and // 7210. Fair to poor signal on...

Still MORE New Frequency Changes!

Image
Still plenty of new frequency allocations being discovered for the B13 transmission period.  Since the B13 period began three weeks ago, I've now noted more than 180 NF's! Here's the latest changes noted up to November 21. 6030   ROMANIA.  RRI - Tiganesti. 30-min Ukrainian service from 2000 (and one-hour later for B13), NF ex 5910, fair level on Nov 20. 6155  BELARUS.  R. Belarus - Minsk. Listed in some circles as German but sounded like French on this day (Thurs) at 1945. A fairly strong carrier but the audio was well down, plus a powerful CRI on 6160, making listening quite difficult. Later at 2000, it gets squashed by CRI's Russian service co-channel. Believed to be a NF ex 7255 to Eu, Nov 21. 6155   CHINA.  CRI - Beijing.  Russian service at 2000 s/on, NF ex 9525 and fair level on Nov 21. 6165   IRAN.  VOIRI - Kamalabad. S/on 2020 with Spanish service to SEu, NF ex 7315, good signal on Nov 21. 6170   KOREA (D.P.R....

Laos, PNG, Bangladesh and more….

3905   PAPUA NEW GUINEA.  NBC New Ireland - Kavieng. Nice signal at 1250 with Tok Pisin anncts and island songs given an updated electronic treatment. Transmissions seem to be fairly regular these days, Nov 18. 4775   INDIA.  AIR - Imphal. Actually on freq at the moment (i.e. not 4775.1), noted at 1425 with talks in possibly Hindi or a local language, then an Indian ballad in a chanting style. Weak signal and not heard here for a long time, Nov 18. 6130   LAOS.   Lao National Radio - Vientiane. First noted at 1233 with Lao commentary, then into a lovely lilting traditional Laotian ballad at 1239. PBS Xizang was there underneath, but Vientiane was much stronger, Nov 18. 7250   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Dhaka. S/on 1313 with music and anncts/ID, time pips at 1315, a minute of music, and then the news. Fair signal except for splash from CNR 2 on 7245, Nov 18. 11905   EGYPT.  R. Cairo - Abis. Arabic commentary read by a Dal...

BOOK REVIEW: Good Morning Hanoi

Image
BOOK REVIEW:    Good Morning Hanoi - Iain Finlay and Trish Clark. Vietnam has always been a country that interested me, largely because I was a teenage DXer and shortwave listener when the Vietnam War was very much under way in the 60's and early 70's. The English programs  from the Voice of Vietnam consisted of heavy propaganda….and not much else! The occasional QSL card would arrive, along with English language propaganda "newspapers" printed on rough quality paper. It was also a time when the possibility of be being "called up" for service with the Australian Armed Forces operating in Vietnam was a very real possibility. Fortunately, Australia's involvement in the war ended 18 months before I would have been eligible for potential call-up. So, when I picked up a copy of Good Morning Hanoi a few years ago, I was already especially interested in the topics of Vietnam and it's international broadcaster, the Voice of Vietnam. This book is a...

More New Frequencies and Other Observations

Image
A big thank you to all the readers of this blog for your feedback and encouragement on my three-part series of new frequencies which I posted last weekend. The response has been most gratifying. During Nov 7 and 8, I discovered more new frequency operations for the international broadcasters ….. and I'm sure that there are many more still waiting out there for me!  :-) But the list below is not just NFs. There are several other observations that may be of interest as well. 7220.06   VIETNAM.  VoV - Son Tay. Russian news at 1250. Fair signal but QRM CRI's Russian service 7215 on Nov 7. 7305   RUSSIA. VoRussia - Irkutsk. Mandarin service at 1032, NF ex 13805, fair signal and moderate QRM CNR 1, Nov 8. 7560   THAILAND.  BBC - Nakhon Sawan. Bangla service at 1340, a small NF ex 7565. Fair level on a clear channel, unlike the stronger but QRM-riddled signal on the // 12065. Then Hindi at 1400, Nov 7. 9390   THAILAND.  R. Thailand - Ban ...

Voice of Kuanghua, Radio Dialogue and others

Image
While logging all those new frequencies for the recent posts, there were also a few others that popped up and are not commonly heard here at Mount Evelyn. 9330   USA.  WBCQ - an associated broadcaster using the transmitters?? Assume so. Perhaps one of our US friends can ID this for me.  News 0945, adverts, religious programming 0955 no ID at 1000, just more preaching, fair to poor signal, not often heard here, Oct 30. 9745  TAIWAN.  Guanghua zhi Sheng (Voice of Kuanghua) - Kuanyin. This station now in the clear since RFA and CNR1 have left the freq. and gone to play elsewhere! At 1712 with a fair signal, talks and music in Mandarin. Surprising not to hear it jammed (perhaps not a threat??), Oct 29. 12105   MADAGASCAR. R. Dialogue - Talata Volonondry. Long live speech in Shona or a similar language at 1547. Then studio annct  at 1654 with an English ID as "Radio Dialogue puts the community in front"! Then back to the speech. Final s/off ...

NEW FREQS - PART 1 - B13 LIST 5900-7600 kHz

Image
The B13 transmission period has kicked off with many changes across the shortwave radio spectrum. The High Frequency Co-ordination Conference (HFCC) released a tentative B13 schedule about a week before this week's changeover, and I did some study on the implications that may arise once the changes were brought into operation. It seems that most of the frequency schedules were enacted OK, although there were a few frequencies that got listed but didn't seem to get used. Of course, not all broadcasters subscribe to the HFCC, and those stations just do whatever they please when picking frequencies and times for their transmissions. So, it's always interesting to see what happens when the new transmission season begins. As at Friday November 1 (four days since the new period began), I have personally noted some 118 frequency changes across the shortwave spectrum. But I know that there are many more new frequency listings that I haven't spotted as yet. The list is w...
