WOOFFERTON TOUR UPDATE

Image
WOOFFERTON TOUR UPDATE I know I keep "banging on" about the Woofferton, UK transmitting station in the the MEDXR Blog. Previous posts were: A Visit to the Woofferton Transmitting Site   (Sept 21, 2013) SPOTLIGHT: Wonderful Woofferton!!   (March 8, 2014) It's just that firstly, this is a fine example of a modern high powered transmitting site and secondly, it is becoming increasingly rare for radio enthusiasts to see up close the insides of shortwave transmitting stations as many of these are disappearing rapidly from active use. So, it is with pleasure that I advise that the latest of the Dave Porter (G4OYX) YouTube videos have just been released. In the past few days, he as uploaded four excellent videos on the "internals" of the 250kW and 500kW Riz transmitters. These senders do much of the heavy lifting in broadcasting powerful signals for the BBC, as well as relay duties for other broadcasters such as KBS World Radio, Voice of Vietnam, Radi...

LOGBOOK: More LATINS, AFRICANS and other NEWS Some DX observations over the last few days: 3320   SOUTH AFRICA. R. Sonder Grense - Meyerton. Afrikaans programming with chat and music at 1935, fair level in amongst the high atmospheric noise on May 24. 3945   UNIDENTIFIED. Believed to be R. Vanuatu - Port Vila. Poor signal during an early morning with high atmospheric noise making listening almost impossible at 1945. Persevered for 30 min until it faded (past sunrise at 7:15am in Port Vila). Vastly different listening conditions compared with my last logging of this station on March 21. Tried the // 7260, but there was too much RFA and Firedrake covering that freq. 3955   ENGLAND. KBS World R. - Woofferton. German to WEu at 2000 s/on opening with news. Nice signal considering the high noise level on May 22. 3965   FRANCE.   RFI - Issoudun. Spanish to Eu with news at 2007, fair level on May 22. 4699.96   BOLIVIA. R. San Miguel - Riberalt...

SOUTH AMERICAN DX IMPROVING

Image
SOUTH AMERICAN DX IMPROVING Things have been a bit slow in the blog over the past few weeks, and there's been a few reasons for this situation! I turned 60 several weeks ago, so there was the obligatory BIG party to organise. :-)  I've been were busy with my local photographic club, the Yarra Ranges Photographic Society - I edit their monthly newsletter and I'm currently redesigning their website. I've been ill on a few occasions, which slowed me down (….no….nothing to do with the BIG party!!!).  So radio has been pushed into the background somewhat during May. I have also been 'recovering' from very big April listening sessions, monitoring all the new frequencies and schedule changes. These were summarised in the recent blog post on May 2 . It was nice to see so many people downloading the pdf document for their own personal use. I hope you found it of interest and helpful in your DXing pursuits. Now, I have started seriously looking at the 2014 update ...

New pdf document available for immediate download: A14 SUMMARY OF SOME NEW FREQUENCIES & SCHEDULE CHANGES As monitored and compiled by Rob Wagner Over the past month, I have made a number of posts in the MEDXR blog about new frequency changes as observed here in Melbourne. In the last day or so, I have added even more NF's to the list. So, rather than leave all this information scattered in separate blog posts, quite a few MEDXR readers have requested that it be all brought together into one document. So here it is......
