More LATINS, AFRICANS and other NEWS

Some DX observations over the last few days:

3320   SOUTH AFRICA. R. Sonder Grense - Meyerton. Afrikaans programming with chat and music at 1935, fair level in amongst the high atmospheric noise on May 24.

3945   UNIDENTIFIED. Believed to be R. Vanuatu - Port Vila. Poor signal during an early morning with high atmospheric noise making listening almost impossible at 1945. Persevered for 30 min until it faded (past sunrise at 7:15am in Port Vila). Vastly different listening conditions compared with my last logging of this station on March 21. Tried the // 7260, but there was too much RFA and Firedrake covering that freq.

3955   ENGLAND. KBS World R. - Woofferton. German to WEu at 2000 s/on opening with news. Nice signal considering the high noise level on May 22.

3965   FRANCE.   RFI - Issoudun. Spanish to Eu with news at 2007, fair level on May 22.

4699.96   BOLIVIA. R. San Miguel - Riberalta. Heard over several evenings but strongest on May 25 with music and talk but no ID around 1100, faded by 1110 on May 25.

4747.15   PERU. R. Huanta Dos Mil - Huanta. Music programming at 1055 to f/out around 1105. Poor signal but is usually a strong contender in the winter months. May 25.

4785   BRAZIL. R. Caiari - Porto Velho. Music programming at 1035, noted to f/out 1050 on May 25. One of the stronger Brazilians on this night (which is not saying much because the noise was way up, too). Regularly heard last year, so I'm expecting the same in 2014.

4810   UNIDENTIFIED. Suspect this is R. Logos - Chazuta, Tarapoto at 1025 on May 25 with a weak signal nearly making it through the atmospherics. Should improve in coming weeks.

4815   BRAZIL. R. Difusora Londrina - Londrina. Noted with a weak signal on both May 23 and 25 around 1015 on both occasions. Dance music and rapid anncts were featured on both occasions. Quieter atmospheric conditions would have helped here….but not to be!

4975.97   UGANDA.  R. Kampala. At 2020 with a sort of "township jive" style of Rap music. I'm not a big rap for Rap, but this was quite groovy. Heavily accented and rapid-fire English anncts made it quite difficult to understand the announcer. Lots of shouting and excitement - sounded like one of the old Saturday night party shows that the African stations used to run about 30 years ago, but now with more contemporary dance styles! Fair to poor signal on May 24.

7460   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Korean to EAs at 1240, NF ex 7225 and a lovely signal on May  22.

13720    PCJ Radio - Trincomalee. Late in signing on at 1232 so we didn't hear the opening anncts. Signal was not moving the meter very much but it was still quite readable, May 25.

15565.   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Burmese to SEAs at 1205 with news. Is this a NF? If so, it's a poor one as it cops jamming meant for the Voice of Tibet service at the same time. Fair signal on May 25.

15640   SINGAPORE.  BBC - Kranji. Noted with English to EAs at 1120 to s/off 1200, NF ex 15285 and a weak signal on May 25.

17860   TAJIKISTAN. Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok - Dushanbe. As we move towards winter in this part of the world, this signal has deteriorated considerable compared with my first listening on March 23. But it's still very much there with Cambodian talks after s/on 1130. The transmitter also sounded cleaner this time around. Reception was pretty scratchy by s/off at 1200, May 25. See my previous post on this station:  NEW: VOICE OF KHMER M'CHAS SROK - Audio Clip

Finally, a reminder that the latest Domestic Broadcasting Survey is now available from the Danish Shortwave Club International (DSWCI). I reviewed this wonderful publication in my last post, but you can also go direct to the YouTube link below to check out DBS 2014 in much greater detail:
