While experimenting with the new FT8 digital mode on the 80, 40 and 20m amateur bands, I have been also up on the roof doing some antenna maintenance on the 14mHz double bazooka (coax) dipole.  BUT....I have also been monitoring the shortwave broadcast bands to see what "goodies" could be discovered. These included Bhutan Broadcasting Service on 6035 kHz, Mongolian Radio 3 on 7260, Radio Sakha 7345, the clandestine Zuab Xaa Moo Zoo on 7530, and Radio Akhbar Mufriha on 9530....plus many more. Yes! It has been a good week, indeed! Here's the list: 3910   KOREA REP. Voice of the People - Kyonggi-do Koyang.  Korean talks with jamming QRM at 2045. Also noted // 3930, Apr 26. 3955   ENGLAND. DX QUICK TIPS - April 19, 2018 - Guest Contributor - DAVE VALKO (USA)

DX QUICK TIPS April 19, 2018 Guest Contributor - Dave Valko (USA) This week, I am delighted to have Dave Valko as a guest contributor again. He has been a very busy boy with some fabulous DX observations made over the past two weeks. Many of these are pirate stations, something I generally don't cover here in the blog because we just don't have them here in Australia....and they are usually too low-powered to be heard this far from North America and Europe. However, our many northern hemisphere readers to the blog will certainly find Dave's observations of some interest - hence the reason for listing these here. But it's not all pirates. Dave has also observed many other interesting DX signals coming into his listening location. So, there should be something for everyone! For those interested, Dave's equipment consists of a Perseus SDR with Wellbrook ALA1530S loop and 153 foot Delta Loop. 2940.13   COLOMBIA  HJNT R. Huellas, Cali  Barely had M...

5 GREAT VIDEOS - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5 GREAT VIDEOS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Last week, I had some extra time to sit back and enjoy a few YouTube videos. There's a lot of rubbish out there....but you can always find a few diamonds in the rough! Perhaps these radio-related offerings might be of interest while you sit back and chill-out over this weekend. The Intrepid DX Group Ever tried making a radio contact or putting up an antenna in gale force winds and rain? This is a 7-minute video recorded by Falklands Island TV recounting a DXpedition a few years back by the Intrepid DX Group to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Intrepid is an organisation dedicated to conducting and supporting amateur radio DXpeditions, conducting scientific research exploring electromagnetic wave propagation, and promoting interest and proficiency in amateur radio communications with respect to improving operating and technical skills. In addition, the group is eager to give back to the remote communities they vis...

A18 PART 2 - ANOTHER 50+ FREQUENCIES MONITORED

SEASON A18 - PART 2 ANOTHER 50+ FREQUENCIES MONITORED Further to last week's post , I have continued to scan the shortwave broadcast bands looking for changes in spectrum usage and frequency movements by the international broadcasters. The list below adds to the selection of frequencies uncovered last time and reinforces the fact that stations have made some significant changes to cope with seasonal propagation conditions and frequency usage. Once again, the "ex" frequencies relate to those channels used in the previous B17 season (and NOT the earlier A17 season that some others use for comparison purposes). And as in my Part 1 post, I list a few less common DX signals that were not new frequencies but are just interesting DX observations. These include 7120 (R. Hargeisa), 7140 and 7180 (Voice of the Broad Masses), 7205 (Republic of Sudan Radio), 7236.36 (Voice of Peace and Democracy), 9455 (Bangladesh Betar) and several others. 5925   IRAN. VoIRI - Sirjan...
