It is excellent to see NHK releasing their new schedule early before the season starts.  On the NHK World - Radio Japan website, the latest transmission schedule is notoriously hard to find amongst all the other "stuff"!!   AN INTERNATIONAL VISITOR TO THE RADIO SHACK Recently, my wife and I were delighted to receive a visit from long-time Japanese DXer Hiroo Nakagawa 7M3MJO and his wife, Kaoru-san. They are from Yokohama and were touring through Melbourne and Sydney for a few days.   We had a lovely time over afternoon tea. Of course, our five-year-old twin granddaughters also provided plenty of entertainment, including displaying their skills at reciting their numbers in Japanese and playing games with Kaoru-san!  Hiroo-san visited the Mount Evelyn radio shack, where we talked about receivers, plus shortwave and mediumwave reception in Australia. I also showed Hiroo-san my current antenna setup, and we looked through a few of my old verification letters from 1970s Latin American shortwave broadcasters. Starting out in shortwave DXing, Hiroo-san now spends much of his time DXing mediumwave bands and FM-DX. He has a fine collection of older receivers, including Icom, Yaesu, Sony, Panasonic,...

  RADIO EXTERIOR DE ESPAÑA'S NEW TRANSMITTERS Radio New Zealand Pacific is not the only station refreshing its high-powered sender. On June 24, the Radiotelevisión Española board of directors approved the purchase and installation of the first of five new transmitters planned for the Noblejas site of Radio Exterior de España (REE).  A June press release indicated that the current stock is subject to frequent breakdowns and has passed its useful lifespan. The press release did not indicate the output power or manufacturer of the new transmitters, although we would expect them to be DRM-capable.  In 1971, 350 kW transmitters were brought online at Noblejas. However, due to a severe funding shortage, REE’s shortwave service was suddenly halted on October 15, 2014. The closure only lasted two months before officially reopening on December 18 with Spanish-only broadcasts aimed at Spanish fishermen and merchant sailors.
