MEDXR Gets a Refresh!

Image
After nine months of online operation, the Mount Evelyn DX Report has received a bit of a facelift today. I've always been of the philosophy that "Less is More"! I don't like looking at websites that are all-singing-all-dancing-all-flashing with lots of extra stuff that has nothing to do with anything!! These sites are fields of distraction, with the real message being lost! But today I have modified the old view significantly. In summary, here are the main changes: The site home page http://medxr.blogspot.com.au now features a summary of recent articles at the top of the page. Scrolling down reveals images and snippets of older posts for you to explore or refer back to at a future date. Clicking on an article opens it up into a new screen for easier reading and adding comments. The top right corner of the home page now has a search box. This will make it so much easier to find past articles on broadcasters, station news, loggings or topical articles. ...

Logbook - African Signals and Others!

Image
4869.91   INDONESIA.  RRI - Wamena. Lovely relaxing Indo pop songs with rare anncts at 0950, fair on July 25, but appears to be a bit irregular with its transmissions these days. 4895   INDIA.  AIR - Kolkata. English news at 1533, fair to poor with rapid fades, July 24. 4910   INDIA.   AIR - Jaipur. Hindi talks at 1530, poor signal and haven't heard this one in a while, July 24. 4930   BOTSWANA. VOA - Moepeng Hill. Very early f/in 1525 with English programming, reasonable signal, July 24. 4975.95   UGANDA.  R. Uganda - Kampala. Surprised at this early f/in 1515 with local language programming, weak at first but improving on July 24. 6175   USA.  VoVietnam - Cypress Creek. Vietnamese service  to Mexico is still rocketing in here at 0520. The strongest on the band at this time. Suddenly at 0528, the VoV programming was interrupted by an English annct for World Vision, then at 0529 an ID for WHRI, then off. The ...

Latin Stations Received With a Boost

Image
After a few weeks of nothing much happening, finally we have some Latin American stations appearing on the tropical bands again. Nice to hear!! 3375.1   UNIDENTIFIED.  Noted at 1033 at a very low signal strength with music, but faded by 1040. I suspect this is R. Municipal and NOT R. Educadora, Brazil (as recently reported by another Australian DXer) but without an ID or any real identifiable programming, I'm reluctant to to say definitively that this was the one I heard. R. Municipal is regularly monitored by U.S. DXers, but I haven't seen a logging anywhere for R. Educadora in the last 12 months. Just because it's on a list somewhere (e.g. WRTH) doesn't mean it's active! An ID is the only way to confirm your monitoring. July 19. 4716.68   BOLIVIA.  R. Yura - San Antonio de Quijarro. Noted at 1048 with lively music and anncts in what sounded like Quechua (not Spanish!). Monitored on and off during the evening while scanning the rest of the band and noted f/...

THE WINTER DAYTIME DX SURVEY - An MEDXR Special Report

Image
Hi Everyone! The list below represents work over the last four weeks monitoring the 49, 41 and 31 metre bands in the period 0100 to 0400 UTC. Here at Mount Evelyn we have been in the depths of winter. The shortest day passed a nearly a month ago and we see gradually more daylight hours. Winter in south eastern Australia means that daytime reception on 5.8 to 10 mHz has been possible and can almost be uninterrupted throughout the day. In the summertime, this type of propagation is impossible! But it's interesting to note that conditions on the bands are quickly changing - there are less stations being heard now on 49 mb than there were a few weeks ago. As we head into longer daylight hours, already some of the stations on this list are now not appearing here on 49 and 41mb in the 0100-0400 time period, compared to only a month ago. But still......it's a very good list, to have noted all these frequencies listed below at some point during the mid-day winter hours. 0100 t...

From the Logbook.... LATEST NEWS!

Image
After a week's holiday in central Victoria, I'm back at the radio with quite a variety of logs noted from the 90 through to 13mb. The low frequencies are holding up quite well although I have been disappointed with the Latin DX signals, which have been rather weak for this time of year. 3204.96   PAPUA NEW GUINEA. NBC - Sandaun, Vanimo. Music program at 1047, not strong but readable, July 7. 3325   INDONESIA.  RRI - Palangkaraya. First noted at 1630 with local pop music and talk, then returned at 1704 to catch the s/off. Not regularly heard here in Melbourne and usually quite weak, July 2. 3325   PAPUA NEW GUINEA.  NBC - Bougainville, Buka Island. Disappointing signal, barely audible with a song at 1057 and ID 1001. July 7. 4749.96   INDONESIA.  RRI - Makassar. Rapid fire Indonesian anncts, lovely pop songs and topical talk at 0905, unusually strong on this evening, but reception is marred by co-channel China later in the evening. July 7. ...

Voice of Vietnam Monitoring Report

Image
PLEASE NOTE:    Some readers have had trouble downloading this file and there seems to be a problem with the link below.  So, I have refreshed the link and it should be working OK now. You can also find the file under the Radio Resources tab at the top of this page, where you will find a  CLICK TO DOWNLOAD link under the Voice of Vietnam Monitoring Report.   Remember to look for the file in the downloads folder on your computer. My apologies for the inconvenience. Rob Over the past week, I gave myself a little project of monitoring the Voice of Vietnam transmissions as they are heard here at Mount Evelyn, (south eastern Australia). It's been an interesting exercise. It was also surprising to hear most broadcasts throughout the 24-hour listening period. Several transmissions were missed because of either sleep (a necessary occupation!!) or no propagation into my location e.g. the Vietnamese broadcast on 7285 kHz at 0000 UTC is 10am local t...
