From the Logbook.... LATEST NEWS!

After a week's holiday in central Victoria, I'm back at the radio with quite a variety of logs noted from the 90 through to 13mb. The low frequencies are holding up quite well although I have been disappointed with the Latin DX signals, which have been rather weak for this time of year.
3204.96   PAPUA NEW GUINEA. NBC - Sandaun, Vanimo. Music program at 1047, not strong but readable, July 7.

3325   INDONESIA.  RRI - Palangkaraya. First noted at 1630 with local pop music and talk, then returned at 1704 to catch the s/off. Not regularly heard here in Melbourne and usually quite weak, July 2.

3325   PAPUA NEW GUINEA.  NBC - Bougainville, Buka Island. Disappointing signal, barely audible with a song at 1057 and ID 1001. July 7.

4749.96   INDONESIA.  RRI - Makassar. Rapid fire Indonesian anncts, lovely pop songs and topical talk at 0905, unusually strong on this evening, but reception is marred by co-channel China later in the evening. July 7.

4750   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Khabirpur. Bengali service with lovely local songs at 1640, fair signal and in the clear (nothing heard from China) on July 2.

4760   ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS.  AIR - Port Blair - Brookshabad. Not confirmed but presumed to be this weak station on July 2, with glimpses of Hindi or similar talk at 1650. S/off 1658.

4820   INDIA.  AIR - Kolkata. Instrumental music program then ID 1700. Poor and mixed with the stronger Xizang PBS Lhasa on July 2.

5980   VATICAN.  Vatican R. - SM Galeria. Noted at 0535 with the Latin Mass, poor signal and not regularly heard here, July 2.

6095   SAO TOME.   VOA - Pinheira. Can now be heard in French via the winter long path as early as the 0530 s/on - A month ago I could only hear it from around 0600. July 2.

7200.1   MYANMAR.  Myanmar R - Yegu. Distorted modulation with pop song at 1043 then anncts, good signal on July 7.

7275   TUNISIA.  S/on just before 0500 with a poor signal that gradually became stronger over the next 45 min. A music program was featured for much of the time. July 2.

7355   ASCENSION IS.  BBC - Ascension. Very poor signal at 0510 but gradually improved over the next hour for the English service to WAf. July 2.

7460   MOLDOVA.  R. Payam e-Doost - Kichinev. Farsi talk program beamed to Iran at s/on 0230 to 0315 s/off, fair signal July 7.

7505   TAJIKISTAN  R. Free Chosun - Dushanbe. Lovely signal at 2020 with the five min "Hello English" program. Today's topic: "He's a Ladies Man"!!!!! No….really!!! Then into Korean and English pop music. July 4.

11965   GERMANY.  R. Liberty - Lampertheim. Russian s/on 0300 to Eastern Europe till 0500. NF ex 6120 and big signal July 7 and // 7435 also heard.

17800   PALAU.  T8WH - Medorn. English preaching on Sundays only 0230 to 0400. Fair level July 7.

17830   ROMANIA.  RRI - Galbeni. English 0300-0400 with the Sunday feature "Week in Review" program, good level on July 7 and // 7350 also heard. Some lists have this as being on 17800 at this time - this is currently not the case.

21505   IRAN.  VOIRI - Sirjan. The only station on the 13mb at this time with English to SAs at 1110. Weak and variable signal, July 7.

 Finally, something that is not radio-related! One of my other passions is photography. 

 Here is a photo that I took while on holiday one morning around 8am, near where we were staying. It was a typical cold winter's morning but there was not a cloud in the sky. The rising sun through the morning fog was like liquid gold!
