FOLDING QSL CARDS IN HAM RADIO

Image
FOLDING QSL CARDS IN HAM RADIO This is a brief look at how the traditional amateur radio QSL card has changed its look recently. The folding QSL is a fabulous souvenir of special DXpeditions undertaken by groups of hams to distant and sometimes rare global locations. This video features just a few of the many very fancy and elaborately designed QSLs I have received in the last few years. This video is probably best viewed in full-screen mode. 73 and good DX! (Part 2 of this extended article looks at Radyo Pilipinas and the famous Far East Broadcasting Company.) Almost since the start of broadcasting, radio has been a vital part of how Filipino citizens consume their media. It began as far back as 1922 with the commencement of KZKZ (AM) in Manila. Starting with just a 5-watt transmitter, the signal was boosted in 1924 to 100 watts. It didn’t take long before broadcasting facilities and new stations spread rapidly across the Philippine islands on both mediumwave and shortwave. During World War Two, the 1942 Japanese invasion of the country saw many stations, especially around Manila, shut down or commandeered by the Japanese army for ...

THE AMAZING PANASONIC DR-48 IN ACTION

Image
THE AMAZING DR-48 RECEIVER IN ACTION The short video below demonstrates how a radio from the mid-1970s still performs well. Although it is nearly 50 years old, the Panasonic DR-48 (also known as the RF-4800) still produces a good sound on the shortwave bands. The recordings of these three shortwave broadcasters were made on January 1, 2025, between 0900 and 0930 UTC. Thanks for watching! 73 and good DX to you!
