STATION NEWS AND THE LOG BOOK April 29, 2016 STATION NEWS KUWAIT My thanks to Rickie Matthews for drawing my attention to a new short video on the IBB transmitting complex in Kuwait. Titled Farewell to IBB Kuwait Transmitting Station and compiled by Gaines Johnson who has worked at the site for the last 10 years, the video provides a quick look at the current antenna and transmitter setup. The film is in two parts, the second section being a short skit (which you could probably take or leave!!)  Johnson is the same man who produced the excellent and longer YouTube video  IBB Kuwait - 20 Years of Broadcasting History (which I posted here last year). NEW BROADCASTER FOR SOUTH SUDAN Eye Radio has been launched and appears to have been quite widely heard over the last few days. There was an article/post on the Radio Tamazuj website entitled  Eye Radio launches nationwide shortwave broadcasts , with transmissions appearing to commence on April 26. The schedu...

My New Antenna! This little fella was caught in our backyard last weekend. STATION NEWS AND THE LOG BOOK April 16, 2016 STATION NEWS MADAGASCAR The World Christian Broadcasting station Madagascar World Voice at Mahajanga appears to be back on air again after several weeks off due to transmitter problems (see STATION NEWS - April 5 ). This morning, I noted the following transmissions from the station: 11615   MWV - Mahajanga. Mandarin to Eu at 2103, poor signal at Mount Evelyn but strong on the Twente remote into Eu, Apr 15. 11770   MWV - Mahajanga. Arabic to NAf at 2210, good signal, Apr 15. 13710   MWV - Mahajanga. Arabic to NAf at 2020, weak signal here but a very good signal on the Twente remote receiver, Apr 15. However, the service on 9455 kHz at 2200 UTC in Mandarin to Southern China still appears to be off-air, as observed both here at Mount Evelyn and via the Twente remote in The Netherlands. So, perhaps not all services are restored a...

RESTORING THE KENWOOD R-5000 RECEIVER PART 1 A few weeks ago, I found an old Kenwood R-5000 receiver. In the first of a short series of YouTube videos to be posted during the coming months, we lift the lid on this fabulous piece of gear from the 1980s/90s. We'll begin to clean up, restore and modify this legendary radio to (hopefully) its former glory! Here's Part 1 - Viewing at full screen HD is recommended. 73 and good DX to you all. The curtain array used by Madagascar World Voice STATION NEWS AND THE LOG BOOK April 5, 2016 The A16 transmission period began with plenty of changes including new frequencies, new times and changed tranmitter sites. In this post, I look at just a few of the schedule changes that have taken place since the end of March. STATION NEWS MADAGASCAR The newest shortwave station on the block is Madagascar World Voice , part of the World Christian Broadcasting Corp., transmitting from the new site at Mahajanga, on the western side of the island. WCB also runs KNLS at Anchor Point, Alaska, BUT this new station is separate from KNLS and is not to be confused! When the station began broadcasting towards the end of March, signals appeared to be well received in both Europe and North America, along with, of course, the main target of Africa. However, here at Mount Evelyn, reception on some frequencies were only fair at best. Here's a few quick observations made here: 95...
