SOUTH AMERICAN DX IMPROVING
SOUTH AMERICAN DX IMPROVING
Things have been a bit slow in the blog over the past few weeks, and there's been a few reasons for this situation! I turned 60 several weeks ago, so there was the obligatory BIG party to organise. :-) I've been were busy with my local photographic club, the Yarra Ranges Photographic Society - I edit their monthly newsletter and I'm currently redesigning their website. I've been ill on a few occasions, which slowed me down (….no….nothing to do with the BIG party!!!). So radio has been pushed into the background somewhat during May.I have also been 'recovering' from very big April listening sessions, monitoring all the new frequencies and schedule changes. These were summarised in the recent blog post on May 2. It was nice to see so many people downloading the pdf document for their own personal use. I hope you found it of interest and helpful in your DXing pursuits.
Now, I have started seriously looking at the 2014 update to my Latin American Survey that was released last year. The update won't be published till around September, but the 2013 survey is still available (for FREE!….of course!) and you can download it HERE.
So, below are a few early season loggings of South American stations starting to appear as winter approaches in southeastern Australia. Most signals are not very strong yet, but they should improve very soon:
4805 BRAZIL. R. Difusora do Amazonas - Manaus. Weak signal struggling on a particularly noisy night, noted at 1015 with occasional music and talk peeping through. Hopefully, will improve in winter, May 23.
4875.07v BRAZIL. R. Difusora Roraima - Boa Vista. Lively music programming and bright anncts at 1020. R. Roraima ID noted on several occasions, especially at 1029 with chimes. In the past, this station wondered around the band somewhat (sometimes as high as 4878 kHz), so it will be interesting if it continues its roamings in 2014! Fair to poor on May 20.
4885 BRAZIL. R. Difusora Acreana - Rio Branco. Fair to poor signal on May 20 with morning preaching at 1035, followed by light music. On most occasions, ID's as “Radio Difusora Acreanas, A Voz das Selvas". This was a regular station last year, so the signal should improve over the next few months.
4925.22 BRAZIL. R. Educação Rural - Tefé. Weak signal with a chat program but can now be heard since the Korean MND vacated 4925 many months ago. Should improve into winter, May 20.
5910.08 COLOMBIA. R.Alcaraván - Lomalinda, Puerto Lleras. Popular Colombian music programming rather than the often heard religious fare, noted at 1050. Station ID about 30 seconds past 1100 then martial music. Fair to poor but in the clear on May 20.
5952.46 BOLIVIA. R. Pio Doce - Siglo Veinte, Llallagua. Weak signal with chat-style programming at 1108, some light QRM from a weaker than usual CRI on 5955, and best heard in LSB on May 20.
6080 UNIDENTIFIED HETS! Noted at 0628 on May 23 with two weak signals. As we get into the winter months, I suspect these will reveal themselves as VOA-Pinheira on 6080 with the 0600-0700 English service to WAf via the long path PLUS R. Marumby-Curitiba on 6080.04 kHz approx.
9586.61 BRAZIL. Super R. Deus é Amor - São Paulo. Music and relaxed preaching at 0515, fair to weak at times. Nice to hear this; last year this freq was not monitored at all in Mount Evelyn. Running // 9565.1 and 11764.76 kHz on May 23.
9645.4 BRAZIL. R. Bandeirantes - São Paulo. A weak but readable signal at 0545 with music programming, ID at 0600 then a brief burst of news headlines, May 23.
9664.05 UNIDENTIFIED. Believed to be R. Voz Missionária - Camboriú. Very weak signal noted at 0605 with music and anncts, May 23.
9818.75 UNIDENTIFIED. I suspect this might be R. Nove de Juhlo - São Paulo. Very weak and way off-freq with talk at 0615, May 23.
Finally, a reminder that the latest Domestic Broadcasting Survey is now available from the Danish Shortwave Club International (DSWCI). I reviewed this wonderful publication in my last post, but you can also go direct to the YouTube link below to check out DBS 2014 in much greater detail:
So, after this rather long post, 73's and have a great weekend everyone!!
