More New Frequencies and Other Observations


A big thank you to all the readers of this blog for your feedback and encouragement on my three-part series of new frequencies which I posted last weekend. The response has been most gratifying.

 During Nov 7 and 8, I discovered more new frequency operations for the international broadcasters ….. and I'm sure that there are many more still waiting out there for me!  :-)

 But the list below is not just NFs. There are several other observations that may be of interest as well.

 7220.06   VIETNAM.  VoV - Son Tay. Russian news at 1250. Fair signal but QRM CRI's Russian service 7215 on Nov 7.

7305   RUSSIA. VoRussia - Irkutsk. Mandarin service at 1032, NF ex 13805, fair signal and moderate QRM CNR 1, Nov 8.

7560   THAILAND.  BBC - Nakhon Sawan. Bangla service at 1340, a small NF ex 7565. Fair level on a clear channel, unlike the stronger but QRM-riddled signal on the // 12065. Then Hindi at 1400, Nov 7.

9390   THAILAND.  R. Thailand - Ban Dung. I haven't listened to the English service of this station for a very long time. It's changed a lot in programming style - pleasant listening! English news and travel infomercials between 1230 and 1300 to Oc, strong signal, too. Unfortunate cutoff at 1300 in the middle of the sports report! Then back on at 1301 with a full English ID and then Japanese service. Beam heading changes from 132˚ to 54 ˚ with a considerable drop in signal strength at my location once the Japanese broadcast kicks in. Nov 7.

9680   JAPAN. NHK - Yamata. Seems to be a NF here at 1304 for Japanese programming to SAs, fair level, Nov 7.

9900   KUWAIT.   R. Azadi - Kuwait. S/on 1130 in Pashto, NF ex 15090,  weak signal on Nov 7.

11645   THAILAND.  VOA - Ban Dung. Mandarin service at 0938, NF and heavily jammed by the more dominant CNR, Nov 8.

11700   CHINA.  CRI - Kunming. Malay service now here 1230-1330, NF ex 15600 and with a powerful signal, Nov 7.


 11735   BRAZIL.  R. Transmundial - Santa Maria. First noted at 0945 with music and canned anncts. Several IDs at 1000 and 1002, first time noted here this year and a fairly good signal on Nov 8.

11780   BRAZIL. R. Nacional da Amazônia - Brasilia. News at 1005, fair after CNR 8 s/off at 0958, Nov 8.

11925   PALAU.  NHK - Medorn. S/on 1315 for the Indonesian service, NF ex 11705, strong with moderate QRM CNR 1 underneath, Nov 7.


 11935   RUSSIA. VoRussia - Novosibirsk. Big Mandarin signal at 1025, NF ex 15300, Nov 8.

11995   GUAM. KSDA-AWR - Agat. Mandarin service to China, NF ex 12010, solid signal on Nov 8.

12035   UZBEKISTAN.  NHK - Tashkent. Bangla service to SAs 1320. NF ex 11685-Kranji, strong and QRM-free signal, Nov 7.

12065   SINGAPORE.  BBC - Kranji. S/on 1330 for the 30 min Bangla service to SAs. NF ex 11730 and flattens RA-Shepparton co-channel to the Pacific. I wonder if there's any interference to listeners in either region, Nov 7.

12075   RUSSIA. R. Rossii - Moscow. Now here for Russian to Eu, NF ex 13665, and on one hour earlier for B13, fair to poor on Nov 8.

13665   ALBANIA. CRI - Cerrik. English to WEu now here, NF ex 13650, fair on Nov 8.

13685   TURKEY.  VoT - Emirler.  S/on 1329 for the Uyghur service. NF ex 11700 and now on one hour later than the A13 period. Strong on Nov 7.

13710   IRAN. VOIRI - Ahwaz. Dari service 1107, NF ex 13880, powerful on Nov 8.

15300   IRAN.  VOIRI - Kamalabad. Dari service 0915, NF ex 15500, strong on  Nov 8.

15420   TAIWAN.  R. Free Sarawak - Paochung. Iban service with talks at 1123, Good signal on Nov 7.

17480   EGYPT.  R. Cairo - Abu Zaabal. This freq rarely heard here for the Arabic service to SAs 1145 with Egyptian pop songs, fair signal on Nov 7.

17500   IRAN.  VOIRI - Kamalabad. Telephone talkback in Arabic at 1155, NF ex 17550 and good signal. Also running // 17840 which is also a NF, but audio was rather scratchy here on Nov 7.

17530   ROMANIA.  RRI - Tiganesti.  English news to WEu at 1203, NF ex 17510 and on an hour later, good signal. Also // now on 17765, NF ex 17670 to EAf with a fair signal, Nov 7.

17560   IRAN.  VOIRI - Sirjan. Mandarin news at 1208, NF and believed to be ex 21500 for this service to FE, strong on Nov 7.

17870   EGYPT.  R. Cairo - Abu Zaabal. English news at 1220 to SEA, fair signal and fair audio quality, Nov 7.
17880   SRI LANKA.  R. Mashaal - Iranawila. News in Pashto 1224, ID at "Mashaal Radio" at 1228. EiBi is listing this as R. Aap ki Dunyaa in Urdu at this time, which does not seem to the case! Strong Nov 7.


21780  UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.  DW - Dhabayya. New txer site ex Kigali for the Hausa service at 1327, weak and fluttery but nice to hear it propagating at this hour, Nov 7.
