Papua New Guinea Outlets

I'm trying to piece together what's going on in PNG broadcasting on 3 mHz. Its been some years since I listened down there, as I have only just returned to the hobby after an extended absence. I notice a few changes with stations disappearing, presumably gone off to play in the FM spectrum. There also appears to be a bit of old or inaccurate information in the various lists including the Nagoya, EiBi, HFCC and other guides. Indeed the NBC website was also not much help with only a list of SW stations registered for use but no information on current operations.

Here's what I heard last night - Friday Nov 9. Observations between 1115 and 1215, except where noted:

3205 NBC R. Sandaun, West Sepik. Very weak to around 1215 s/off but carrier not switched off till 1310.

3235 Nothing Heard

3260 NBC R. Madang, Fair in Tok Pisin. S/off 1210

3275 Nothing Heard

3305 Nothing Heard

3315 NBC R. Manus, Lorengau. Tok Pisin. Audio appeared to be a little down on this night.

3325 Nothing Heard

3335 Nothing Heard

3345 Nothing Heard

3365 NBC R. Milne Bay, Alotau. Fair in Tok Pisin to around 1305 when it suddenly went off air for about 7 minutes and then suddenly returned with English anncts including thanking everyone for listening tonight, then a pop song. 1319 more thanks for listening! Gave a time check as "23 after 11" at 1326!!! Needs to wind up the clock again, I guess! Still going strong past 1330.

3385 R. East New Britain, Rabaul. Pre-recorded community anncts in English with many mentions of Rabaul. But rest of the program was in Tok Pisin with talk and occasional songs. News at 1302 and still going past 1330 with pop songs. Best of the 90mb PNG stations tonight.

3905 R. New Ireland, Kavieng. Music and talk in Tok Pisin. Fair level and still going past 1330.

3915 R. Fly, Kiunga. Very weak here in Tok Pisin. Noted from 1145 to past 1315 when it faded.

I'd be interested in any information others may have with regards to current operations, which stations have disappeared permanently or temporarily, etc. For example, have Morobe (3220), Kerema (3245), Popondetta (3345) and Goroka (3395) gone for good?

For my part, I'll continue to observe what I can from here and report anything newsworthy.

In response to  the above entry, I received a message from Anker Petersen in Denmark:

According to my notes the stations, you mentioned, have not been reported active since:

 3220 Morobe March 2010
 3245 Kerema October 2005
 3345 Popondetta August 2012
 3395 Goroka July 2002.

Thanks Anker, much appreciated. We'll keep observing what's going on in this band.
