From the Logbook.....
4450 KOREA. Voice of the People, Goyang. Fair level with Korean talks and making it through the jamming without too much problem.
4750 INDONESIA. RRI - Makassar. Early f/in at 0858, ID at 0900 then news program.
4774.9 PERU. R. Tarma, Tarma, Junin. First noted at 1005 with talk and a music program of ballads and moderate tempo songs. Fair level and quite good considering this is the mid-summer non-Latin season. Some CODAR and other ute interference.
4835 AUSTRALIA. ABC - Alice Springs. First noted off the air at 1018, allowing easy reception of WWCR on 4840. Then ABC suddenly returned in the middle of a cricket match broadcast at 1027. Unusual to hear this station off air with a technical difficulty!Feb 3.
4955 PERU. R. Cultural Amauta, Huanta. Presumed to be this one at 1035 with songs and announcements. Pretty noisy conditions and a weak signal made it difficult for an ID. Should improve in strength over the next few months as we approach our winter.
5039.2 PERU. R. Libertad, Junin. First noted at 1013 with talk, then excited announcements at 1017 and lively songs with lots of shouting. Boy, they sure know how to wake up in the morning over there!! Fair signal strength, but considering we're in the mid-summer non-Latin season here, it was pretty good!
6970 TAIWAN. Sound of Hope, weak signal peeping through the noise at 1035 with Mandarin talks. No sign of jamming this night.
7230 TAKE YOUR PICK! Three Way Battle Royale! At 0935, we have a choice of China's CNR 1 (Mandarin), PBS - Xinjiang (Mongolian) and down in the mud is R. Rossii - Yakutsk (Russian). CNR 1 was the winner (loudest!).
7260 ANOTHER CROWDED CHANNEL. At 0945, you can have China's PBS Xinjiang (Mandarin), Mongolian Radio 2 (Mongolian), and R. Vanuatu (English). And then to top it all off, Voice of Russia's open carrier and occasional test tones 15 minutes out from the start of their 500kW English service. In this day and age, International stations running open carriers for more than a quarter of an hour before the broadcast is nonsense!
7355 USA. KNLS - Anchor Point. Impressive signal strength at 1010 with great pop songs and an interesting talk about permafrost and the effects of global warming. Detailed ID at 1015. Short religious message and then back into a song by The Corrs. Pleasant listening and programming. Why can't religious stations be more like KNLS?
9955 USA. WRMI - Miami. World of Radio program in English at 0918 on Sunday. Then into Prague's Spanish service at 0930. Poor signal on both my antennas.
9990 KUWAIT. R. Farda - Kuwait. S/on 0930 in Persian with a news program. Poor signal.
11780 BRAZIL. R. Nacional da Amazonia, Brasilia. Came up for several minutes from 2123 with music and enthusiastic announcements, but then gone.
21670 SAUDI ARABIA. R. Riyadh. Indonesian service s/on 0900 with five minutes of announcements then call to prayers. Variable signal, heavy fading.
4774.9 PERU. R. Tarma, Tarma, Junin. First noted at 1005 with talk and a music program of ballads and moderate tempo songs. Fair level and quite good considering this is the mid-summer non-Latin season. Some CODAR and other ute interference.
