MORE Summertime Africans! Good Reception Conditions Continue!

Well, reception conditions between the African continent and Australia have certainly held up well over the past few days since my last post nearly a week ago. Seven countries are represented in this list below. Although signals are mostly not strong, the fact that they are appearing at this time of year is a great sign for potentially a very good winter DX season ahead.

3320   SOUTH AFRICA.  R. Sonder Grense - Meyerton. Afrikaans programming with talk and short bursts of music in between at 1910. A poor signal, but not bad for mid summer!

4880   SOUTH AFRICA.  SW Radio Africa - Meyerton.  Fair signal at 1845 with a program in a local Zimbabwean language. Into a "Township" style song at 1852, finally a piece of orchestral music to s/off 1902.

5950   ETHIOPIA. Voice of Tigray Revolution, Addis Ababa. Beautiful signal at 1745 with talks in a local language. Frequent mentions for Addis Ababa. No ID at 1800 but into traditional music at 1801. I came back at 1915 and found it on late - going past the scheduled 1900 s/off - with talks and energetic music. Telephone talkback at 1920. Finally s/off at 1957 after ID.

6115   CONGO REP.  R. Congo - Brazzaville. Long talks or news/information program in French with alternating male and female announcers. Occasional short bursts of music. First noted at 1807 and continued through till 1832 when there was a change of announcers. Finally closed down without any real fanfare at 1839.  In the clear but the signal was not strong and the audio appeared to be down.

7200.07   SUDAN. R. Omdurman - Al-Aitahab. Presumed this station at 1930 with a mix of talk and North African songs. The signal was weak and hard to get an ID. Some lists are also showing Ethiopia, but I don't think so!

7275   TUNISIA. RTV Tunisia - Sfax. Fades in around 0615 and runs parallel 7335 till 0630 s/off. Weak signal till s/off. Last time I heard them here was in November.

7335   TUNISIA.  RTV Tunisia - Sfax. S/on 0600 in Arabic at a fair level and much better strength that 7275 kHz. The different beam heading seems two make a big difference here!

11600   LIBYA.  R. Libya. Presumed to be the Sabrata site at 1855 with lively local music - singers and drums. Nice ID in Arabic at 1902 as "Huna Radio Libya" and then news program. Moderate signal strength and in the clear.

11735   TANZANIA.  Zanzibar BC - Dole. Checked at 1800 and heard nothing. Checked back at 1845, heard nothing. But then a minute later, while tuning around it suddenly popped up out of the mud. Talks in Swahili with two announcers. At 1852, into some groovy Afro dance music. Very weak at this time and accompanied by deep fades.

And if you hear any shortwave radio stations from the African continent, feel free to share them here with other radio enthusiasts around the world!
