From the Logbook....



4699.94   BOLIVIA.   R. San Miguel - Riberalta.  Very weak at 1016 with a Latin ballad and anncts by a man with a deeply resonant voice. Faded by 1045. First time heard this year, should improve as we approach winter.


 4774.97   PERU.  R. Tarma - Tarma, Junin. First noted at 1023 when mixed with another Latin on almost the same frequency, presumably the Brazilian Congonhas. Both were of equally poor strength, but as daylight made its way across Brazil first, that one faded first, leaving Tarma in the clear at 1105. The signal improved and we heard Peruvian pops with short rapid canned IDs. Some pesky CODAR made listening tedious by 1120.

4840   USA.  WWCR - Nashville.  F/in 0610 with the usual English religious programming. First station on the 60mb this afternoon and easily heard because ABC Alice Springs 4835 doesn't switch on till 0830. The only other station on the band around this time is R. Rebelde, Havana 5025 which faded in at 0625. These stations should appear even earlier as winter approaches.

4865.08   BRAZIL.  R. Verdes Florestas - Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. Nice signal although not strong with pleasant acoustic band vocal ballads at 1037. Faded by 1050.


 4885   BRAZIL.  R. Difusora Acreana - Rio Branco. Lovely signal, strong and cutting through some regional thunder crashes at 1050.  The usual long religious talks by a male preacher, seems to be on the air every day at this time. Faded quickly by 1110.

5024.8   PERU.  R. Quillabamba - Quillabamba, Cusco. Hetting with the much stronger Cuba at 1057. First time heard this season and nice to be able to catch this. Music and short anncts under the long talks offered by Rebelde.


5830   USA.  WTWW - Lebanon, TN. One of the first to appear at 0550 f/in in the late afternoon. English religious programming with the male presenter sounding pretty annoyed (pissed??) at all of us!!!! All I can say is "SORRY….I'M TRYING MY BEST……THAT'S ALL I CAN DO!!!!"  Later on in the talk, it seemed that he was mainly upset with his fellow Americans. Whew!!! Boy, was I relieved!!!  ;-)


 5995   MALI.  RTVMali - Bamako. Monitored this frequency this afternoon from 0630 looking for some long path action and heard nothing. Then at 0705, literally out of nothing the signal suddenly came up within a minute and stayed there. Quite weak but pleasing to hear this one via the LP and is the first time for ages that I have noted it at this time. Appeared to be some type of long news program or detailed news report in French. Modern Afro fusion music noted at 0731, then a more traditional song at 0735. Gradually faded away and gone by 0740. Also monitored 6165 looking for Chad during the same period but no luck there.


 21500   ROMANIA.  RRI - Tiganesti. Romanian service at 1000-1055 only on Sundays. Fair signal but much stronger on the // 17870.
