From the Logbook....


Here's another in the series "From the Logbook" with a few more new frequencies observed, plus some long-path Africans, Peru, Nigeria, and the ever-wandering Radio Free Sarawak. Hope you find something of interest here for you.
5995   MALI.  RTVMali - Bamako. French programming at f/in 0640 via the long path. Poor and variable signal, should improve as we get towards winter. Apr 17.

6095   SAO TOME.  VOA - Pinheira. Via long path in French at f/in 0616 until s/off 0630, fair signal. First time heard here, appears to be a NF probably ex 6020 and ex Botswana site. Apr 17.


 6155   AUSTRIA.  ORF - Moosbrunn. German s/on 0500 and very strong at 0510, beaming to Eu, NAf, and ME. I believe this is the only SW transmission from Vienna, now that the AU/NZ transmission was abandoned at the end of the B12 period. And our winter season is probably the only opportunity to catch this station. Rare DX, indeed….who'd have thought?!! Apr 19.

6180   BRAZIL.  R. Nac. Brasilia. F/in 0530 with Portuguese talks and later songs at 0540. Very weak level and never really improved. Faded out around 0605 and then came back again around 0700 and was quite strong by 0745 - strange! Apr 19.

7350   ROMANIA.  RRI - Tiganesti. Romanian service now here, NF ex 7220, and on an hour earlier for their summer season. Big signal at 0430 to s/off 0457. Apr 19

7435   GERMANY.  R. Liberty - Lampertheim. Concluding the Russian service with IDs at 0459 before s/off. NF, believed to be ex 9520 (Kuwait). Excellent signal. Apr 19.

9330   USA.  WBCQ - Monticello ME.  Old rock songs with no anncts at 1030+. If there was anyone was actually in the studio, they had probably passed out on the floor in a purple haze!!  Apr 16.

9435   KOREA. VoK - Kujang. S/on 1300 for English to NA, NF ex 9335, fair with some splash from FEBC 9430. Apr 19.

9525.9   INDONESIA.  RRI - Jakarta.  English at 1050 with a discussion on travel experiences. ID at 1100, then into Mandarin programming. Heavy QRM CNR11 on 9530. Apr 16.

9674.85  PERU.   Pacifico Radio - Lima.  Adverts and canned anncts 0740, then a pop ballad at 0746. ID at 0752 and thanking listeners for listening…… Fair signal and at equal level to the plasma TV signal from next door! Best heard in LSB. Apr 16.

 9689.92   NIGERIA.  VoNigeria - Ikorodu.  Sudden s/on 0759 with ID, then News at 0800 in Hausa. Started out very weakly then a big boost to the signal at 0804 (almost as if they had turned on the "after-burners"). Apr 16.


 15430    R. Free Sarawak. Moved from 11600 to 15430 at the start of A13 on Mar 31, then to 15425 on Apr 5. possibly to avoid Romania co-channel, then down to 15420 on Apr 8 from 1100. Now noted on Apr 19 back here on 15430 at 1155. Then on Apr 20, the transmission did not get started till 1115, very weakly at first but then increasing in strength within three minutes. Occasionally subject to variety of deliberate jamming noises.  I cannot confirm the txer site – rumours have Sri Lanka, Taiwan or Palau. I have it on good authority from Victor Goonetilleke 4S7VK that it's certainly not Trincomalee. 
15435   ROMANIA.  RRI - Tiganesti. Mandarin service noted at 1310, NF. Apr 19.
