The Double Bazooka Antenna - A YouTube Review

The Double Bazooka Antenna - A YouTube Review

Over the past six weeks, I have been experimenting with two new antennas: the 80 and 40 meter Double Bazookas. It's been a lot of fun trying out these and comparing them to my existing Par End Fed SWL antenna.

AND....over the past three days, I have been compiling a video that introduces this antenna design, looks at its construction and documents its results. That has also been fun, as I have been endeavouring  to come to terms with Apple's iMovie software (I've only used it twice before - so I'm no expert here!!).

The Double Bazooka is also known in some circles as a Coaxial Dipole, but it has some distinctive and important differences from the standard dipole antenna. It was originally designed for military use in the 1940's as a broadband antenna and from a transmitting point-of-view, this is one of it's main attractions - low SWR across almost an entire shortwave band. However, it also is successful in reducing the impact of the ever-growing problem of electrical noise that continually plagues our shortwave bands. And it appears to be sensitive enough to outperform the Par EF SWL in receiving signals. As a listening antenna, it even works well on shortwave broadcast bands outside of the design frequency range - e.g. I have found the 80 meter antenna very effective between 2.3 and 6 mHz, while the 40 meter antenna also works well in the 9 to 12 mHz range.

I hope you'll take the time to check out my new 12-minute video, and if you think that it's informative and useful to you, please share it with other radio enthusiasts.

And if you would like to discuss the antenna further, please leave comments below and I'll be happy to respond to your questions.

Best regards
