From the Logbook....

Latin stations are still making an appearance this winter, although many of them are well down in strength compared to "the good old days". Pity. I was hoping for something better. Still, we have our shortest day today, so maybe as we pull out of winter some stronger signals will appear. Nice to hear Bolivia on 3310 kHz - Not many South American stations listed on the 90mb any more.

It was also interesting to see a few signals on the 19 and 16 meter bands just past sunrise yesterday. In the depths of winter, those bands are usually closed till past 9am, but today they were open as early as 7am.

3310   BOLIVIA.  R. Mosoj Chaski - Cochabamba. Delighted to hear this one - the last time was in 2003! First noted a fair to poor signal at 1045 with mainly talks in Quechua by a female anncer, but with the occasional ID in Spanish. Sometimes a short burst of music was played. Faded by 1120 (7:20am Cochabamba time) on June 16.

3955   KOREA REP.  KBS - Woofferton.  S/on 2000 German service with news, exceptionally strong signal June 15.

3965   FRANCE.  RTI - Issoudun.  Spanish to Europe just after s/on 2003. Better signal than several months ago but not as strong as 3955 Woofferton. June 15.

4976   BRAZIL.  R. Rural - Santarem. Believed to be this at 1000 with music and talk. Weak on June 15.

4755.5   MICRONESIA.  The Cross Radio - Pohnpei.  American religious programming at 2015. Not heard with its 1 kW at this time in the summer as there's too much daylight here in Melbourne. But deep in the winter months means Melbourne is in darkness still and Pohnpei is on greyline. Faded by 2025 on June 15.

4774.9   PERU.  R. Tarma - Tarma, Junin. News program at 1012, occasional jingles also noted. Came back at 1125 and it was going strong with happy dance music. Fair signal but with some ute QRM on June 15.

4789.91   PERU.  R. Vision - Chiclayo. Noted at 0620 with some sort of live broadcast, lots of echo like in a church with a man leading a service and audience reciting something. Then into Andean music 0635. Weak, noted to past 0830, and first time heard here this winter DX season. June 14. Then also on June 15 at 1045 to f/out 1130.

4815   BRAZIL. R. Difusora Londrina - Londrina. Fair signal just making it above the noise with pop (religious?) ballads at 1005, studio and canned echo anncts 1016. June 16.

4925.22   BRAZIL.  R. Educacao Rural - Tefe. Sunday morning preaching at 1025, then a brief music interlude at 1030 before an interview. Always tough to get this one because 4925 MND Sth Korea is on when the Brazilian is strongest (which is pretty weak most times). June 16.

5035   BRAZIL  R. Aparecida - Aparecida.  0640 with a long report or possibly a religious program. Weak at times but the channel was clear at that time, which helps! June 14. And again June 16 at 1030 but the signal was quite fluttery at times.

6059.8  BRAZIL.  Super R. Deus é Amor - Curitiba.  0715 with impassioned fire and brimstone religious program. Weak and // 6120 also heard. But nothing noted on the other // 9565 and 11765. June 14

6134.83   BOLIVIA.  R. Santa Cruz - Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Always especially hard work to dig this one out. Latin pop songs and excited anncts at 1025 to past 1130. Suffers from RTI and jamming 6135, making it taxing listening on most days. June 15.

9690   ARGENTINA.  RAE - General Pacheco. Spanish on weekdays, noted 2245 to f/out 2340, fair under AIR's English service. Interestingly, it's also scheduled to operate on 11710 at this time but can't here it because of the very strong AIR's English service also there, in // 9690!! June 20.

11830   GUAM.  KSDA/AWR - Agat. S/on 2200 with English ID and Mandarin programming. NF ex 12120. Strong signal but deep fades, June 13.

12085   AUSTRALIA. RA - Shepperton.  Chinese service 1330, NF ex. 11665, June 19

15345   ARGENTINA.  RAE - General Pacheco. Seems to be back on freq these days (a few months ago it was 15344.67!), good signal with German 2100 to past 2145 weekdays. Runs the National service in Spanish on weekends. June 20.

15355   OMAN. R. Sultanate of Oman. Arabic news report 2215, fair to poor, June 20.

15470   MARIANA ISLANDS.  Vatican R. - Tinian. Mandarin 2200-2230, good signal June 20

15480   EGYPT.  R. Cairo - Abu Zaabal. Portuguese talks at 2225, poor and fluttery, June 20.

15610   USA.  WEWN - Vandiver. Aussie announcer selling magazine subscriptions! Then back into US hosted talkback show, 2225, fair June 20.

15630   GREECE . VOGreece - Avlis.  Fair signal with music and talk 2230, June 20.

17540   USA.  R. Japan - Cypress Creek. Portuguese 2140 to s/off 2200. Weak. June 20

17550   KUWAIT.  R. Kuwait. Arabic 2205, fair level June 20.

17705   CUBA.  R. Havana. Spanish 2147, weak. Also noted 17720 where it was a bit stronger. June 20.

Have a great weekend everyone.
