Gather Round the Radio!



A few interesting logs noted over the past week.......

 3320   SOUTH AFRICA. R. Sonder Grense - Meyerton. Poor signal with Afrikaans programming with light music at 2047, but flattened by the PBS Pyongyang s/on 2100. Aug 2.

6180   TAIWAN. RTI - Hu Wei. Mandarin service with mainland program jamming 1130 with both broadcasts at good strength. NF from several months ago ex 6135, Aug 3

11775   GUAM.  AWR - Agat. Mandarin to EAs with religious talks at 1120. NF and // 2105 and 15515 also heard on Aug 6, but struggled against the massive CRI Vietnamese signal 11780.

13850   INDIA.  AIR - Bangalore. at 0215 s/on for the Kannaka service with a shocking hum on the audio. Something seriously wrong there needs urgent repair! Other than numerous Chinese outlets, the only other stations on the band at this time are 13850 R. Cairo-Abis (Arabic service to NAm/Eu) and 13750 VOIRI-Sirjan (Hindi service to SAs) Aug 4.

15090   THAILAND. R. Ashna - Ban Dung. S/on 0130 with Yankee Doodle and ID, then into Dari for WAs. Fair level but with some echo on the signal suggesting multi-path reception, Aug 5.

15120   INDIA.  AIR - Bangalore.  Usually impossible to hear around 0515 for the Hindi service to EAf, especially with the very much stronger CRI chattering away, but on Aug 4 glimpses were heard till s/off 0530 leaving CRI to entertain itself!

15275   RWANDA.  DW - Kigali. English to WAf, 2045 to s/off 2100. This was an additional freq for this service several months ago but I'm only catching up with it now! Very poor reception because this band isn't properly open here in our mornings at this time of year. Should improve towards the end of the year. Aug 6.

15340   FRANCE.  RFI - Issoudun. Fair reception at 0615 of the 30-min Hausa service to CAf, Aug 4.

15360   GERMANY.  R. Mashaal - Nauen. At 0620 was a fair signal to Afghanistan on Aug 4. Txer site changes occur later in the day with Kuwait from 0900 and Iranawila 1000-1300 s/off.

17890   CHINA.  CNR 1 - Beijing. Mandarin 0130. This is not particularly significant other than for what is NOT on any frequency above this one in our late mornings! 13mb doesn't fire until 0200 with RFA's Tibetan service and jamming. And with the exception of some light jamming noise for the flea-powered Sound of Hope (which we can never hear) on 18970, nothing can be heard above 17890….not even RS-Shep on 19000. Aug 4.
