KVOH Test, Open Radio Nth Korea, R. Dabanga.......

Listening conditions here at Mount Evelyn have been quite good over the past week. A mixed bag of different stations have been logged, including KVOH's brief test transmissions. I've sent an emailed reception report off to them straight after the broadcast, but nothing heard back as yet.

6090   IRAN.  VOIRI - Sirjan. Moderate level over CNR 2- Geermu at 2120 for the Albanian service, music then ID and address at 2126, piano music then anthem, with eventual s/off 2131, Sept 14.

7460   MONGOLIA.  RFA - Ulaanbaatar. Nice signal in the clear at 2140 for the Korean service. I don't often hear RFA un-jammed these days, Sept 14.

7480   TAJIKISTAN.  Open R. Nth Korea - Dushanbe. Aimed towards Nth Korea and NE China (bordering with Nth Korea), a weak signal at 2145 with long talks, until s/off at 2159 on Sept 14.

7495   FRANCE.  R. Algerienne - Issoudun. French news at 2201 then into an Arabic music program at 2208, fair level on Sept 14.

7550   INDIA.  AIR - Bangalore. English GOS to Eu noted at 2210 with a weak signal as the band began to close up, but it managed to hold on here till s/off 2230, Sept 14.

9975   USA.  KVOH - Rancho Simi, CA.  Test transmission on Sept 7 from 0100 in English and Spanish, with IDs, requests for reports and station address in Los Angeles. One announcement went as follows:
"This is 9.965 mHz in the 31 meter band. We would appreciate hearing from you.  (Missed the next bit)….. You may email your reception reports to QSL @ KVOH.net, that's QSL @ KVOH.net. Or you can send your reception reports to:  KVOH, P O Box 102, Los Angeles 90078, United States of America. Our web site is www.KVOH.net"
The rest of the time was taken up with religious rock/pop songs. Fair signal at the start, but faded by 0145 (11:45am local), Sept 7.

15110   RUSSIA.  R. Tartarstan - Samara.  S/on 0409 with ID in Russian and Tartar, then programming in Tartar with an interview program. Good signal on Sept 7.

15275   THAILAND.  R. Thailand - Ban Dung. English to Eastern NAm noted at 0020 at a beam heading of 6˚ with a poor signal. But the service continues at 0030 to Western NAm with a change of beam to 38˚ and a noticeable increase in strength here. Sept 7.

15310   UZBEKISTAN.  BBC - Tashkent.  Caught the final moments of the Farsi service at 0426, English ID at 0429 then s/off. Fair signal on Sept 7.

15320   TAIWAN.  RTI - Paochung. Hakka service to SEA 0435, but quite weak with deep fades on Sept 7.

15365   RWANDA.  BBC - Kigali. English to ME at 0345 with a fair signal. However, at 0400 the transmitter site changes to A'Seela, OMAN, still to the ME, still in English, still with 250 kW, but with a significantly reduced signal strength. Sept 7.

15400   MADAGASCAR.   R. Dabanga - Talata Volonondry. Dafuri Arabic noted at 0440. Note that this station does not always use standard Arabic programming;. The Dafuri dialect sounds a little clearer and less guttural to my ears. It is possible to hear other dialects on Dabanga's broadcasts, too (often in the telephone talkback interviews!). Solid signal although modulation was not always pure on Sept 7.

17820   PHILIPPINES.  R. Pilipinas - Tinang. English service with very listenable programming, consisting of light popular songs and topical reports, at 0230 with a lovely signal. // 15285 also heard but weaker signal there. Sept 7.

73 and have a great weekend everyone!
