PNG, Latins, Nigeria and more....

Loggings from last weekend included the following:......

PAPUA NEW GUINEA STATIONS audible on Sept 22 between 1055 and 1130 UTC:

3260   NBC Madang
3325   NBC Bougainville
3365   NBC Milne Bay
3385   NBC Rabaul

They all carry their own programs - usually in Tok Pisin with occasional English and mainly a mix of island music, pops, C&W, and Sunday evening chat. However, nothing heard on 3205 kHz. Long gone are the days when the 90metre band was full of PNG stations.

NOTE:  There is a report (from the South East Asia DXing Blog) that Madang may be moving their transmitter to a higher location on Mt Nobonob this month. It may be worth monitoring their 3260 kHz outlet to see if there is any improvement in reception. The station is seeking reports.

3330   CANADA.  CHU - Ottawa. Nice signal over the noise on Sept 22 at 1100. You can learn more about this interesting time signal station, its operations and its history at:
http://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/services/time/short_wave.html

4716.7   BOLIVIA.  R. Yura - San Antonio de Quijarro. Noted much earlier than listed in the survey with music programming from 0957 and lots of Spanish anncts/IDs as R. Yatun Ayllu and R. Yura, and mentions of "de los Ayllus". Occasional Quechua words picked out as well. This would have been a great signal into Mount Evelyn if it hadn't been for the horrendous background atmospherics! Sept 22.

4747.1   PERU.  R. Huanta Dos Mil - Huanta. Strong signal at 1010 with music and anncts. QRM China 4750 on Sept 22.

4885   BRAZIL.  R. Difusora Acreana - Rio Branco. Sunday morning preaching at 1025, fair signal mixed with strong atmospheric noise on Sept 22.

4990   SURINAME. R. Apinte - Paramaribo. Delighted to hear this again on Sept 22 at 1035 with pops and anncts in Dutch. Horrible night for listening with the band covered by thunderstorm noise, and I persevered for about 15 min before the QRN defeated my ears!

5024.8   PERU.  R. Quillabamba - Quillabamba, Cusco. Causing quite a deal of interference to Rebelde, both stations at equal level to the thunderstorm noise, so it was a pretty muddy frequency on Sept 22 at 1050.

5039.19   PERU.  R. Libertad - Junin. Fair level at 0945 with music programming occasional "Libertad" IDs. Still noted when I rechecked past 1115 on Sept 22.

6000   CUBA.  R. Havana. Spanish to NA at 1120, mixed with CNR 1 and jamming from 6003. NF ex 6150, Sept 22.

7205   FRANCE.  RFI - Issoudun.  At 2120 in French to WAf but mostly buried underneath Turkey's powerhouse English service to AU/NZ until VoT s/off at 2130, leaving RFI in the clear. Interestingly, no sign on CRI-Xian's English to EAf also scheduled at this time, Sept 22.

7295   MALAYSIA.  RT Malaysia - Kajang. Intermittent txer fault causing on/off interruptions to the TRAXX FM relay from 2135 to 2155. Signal was fair to good…when it was there! Sept 22.

7315   USA.  WHRI - Cypress Creek. English religious messages at 2155, then ID and address, at a fair to poor level before s/off 2200. Got out of the way just in time before s/on of CRI's Esperanto service to SAm! Sept 22.

7480   KUWAIT.  VOA - Kuwait. Fair level for English to CAs at 2215, Sept 22.

7495   FRANCE.  R. Algerienne - Issoudun. Qu'ran to WAf at 2220, fair Sept 22.

7550   INDIA.  AIR - Bangalore. S/off anncts at 2229 for the English GOS to Eu, fair, Sept 22.

7585   SRI LANKA.  R. Farda - Iranawila. Farsi service featuring Afghani songs at 2225, fair Sept 22.

11730   BELARUS.  R. Belarus - Minsk.  English to Eu at 2005, fair level and only light interference, but by 2030 RNZI on 11725 was causing serious QRM, Sept 22.

13685   UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.  R. Ergo - Dhabayya. Nothing heard at the scheduled 0830 s/on, kept coming back and checking the freq until it bobbed up with a weak signal at 0842 with music and Somali chat between two announcers. Faded away by 0846 on Sept 22.

15120   NIGERIA.  VoNigeria - Ikorodu. Good signal but slightly muffled audio for the French service to Eu at 0726 with Afro pops, ID at 0730 and more groovy music. But suddenly off mid-transmission for several minutes before returning to the air. Later, English also noted at 0827 on Sept 22. Here, I never get to hear VoN prior to 0700 because of the massive CRI Mandarin transmission until that time.

15245   D.P.R.KOREA. VoK - Kujang. S/on to Eu for Russian service 0700, solid signal with slight QRM RA-Shepp 15240, Sept 22.

15260   ROMANIA.  RRI - Galbeni. Romanian folk music program at 0745 for this Sunday only service to ME, great signal on Sept 22.

15260   GUAM.  AWR - Agat. Noted just after s/on at 2205 with religious programming in Mandarin to FE. NF ex 11830, Sept 22.

15300   FRANCE.  RFI - Issoudun. Noted at 0645 for French to CAf with a poor signal. However, the service continues past 0700 with a change of bearing from 150˚ to 185˚ for the WAf service, resulting in a better signal here, Sept 22.

15320   PHILIPPINES.  FEBC - Bocaue. On very early with the keyboard IS at 0750 for an 0800 s/on in a local lilting Indonesian dialect (scheduled for the Sasak language) with Gamalan music, fair signal on Sept 22.

15730   PAKISTAN.  R. Pakistan - Islamabad. Mandarin service at 1202 with some very chunkily rhythmic  sort of song which was quite entertaining. Then time pips at 1210 (!!??), an ID and news. Modulation was of a fair quality (I've heard worse from them recently) and strength was good. Sept 22.

17660   SOUTH AFRICA.  Sth African Radio League - Meyerton. Very weak with glimpses of Sth African accented English at 0805, never got any better so I gave up at 0825, Sept 22.

73 and good DX everyone!
