Strong Asian DX Signals
Part of my listening last night was spent observing the movements of the Voice of Tibet as it hopped around the radio dial, trying to avoid jamming. I also noted that the Voice of Mongolia is still not on air, so this doesn't look good for that broadcaster. It's been absent for approximately 6 weeks now. KBS World Radio put in a beautiful signal to Mount Evelyn last night for it's English service. AND…..although not an Asian station, I did note the Wave Scan DX program from WRMI.
4010.04 KYRGYZSTAN. Birinchi Radio - Bishkek. Very weak signal at 1425 in what was probably the Kyrgyz language (hard to tell). Not regularly heard here at this time, Feb 17.
5910 JAPAN. Shiokaze (Sea-Breeze) - Yamata. Noted at 1338 with Japanese programming and a constant beeping jamming noise (but it could easily be heard through this racket), fair signal on Feb 17. Back here after a short time on 5985 kHz; better to be here because we can now hear Myanmar without QRM!
5985.84 MYANMAR. Myanma R - Yegu. Caught the 1230 chiming clock for the THEIR top of the hour time check and a nice ID in Burmese, then the news. Very good signal on Feb 17.
7580 SRI LANKA. VOA - Iranawila. English news at 1414 to SAs, NF ex 7520. Good signal but there was a low level fast pulse jamming which was not strong enough to interfere with the transmission but just give the audio a slightly rough quality, Feb 17.
9332 TAJIKISTAN. VoTibet - Yangi Yul. Chinese noted here at 1302 and making a good attempt at getting past the jamming noise. Jumped to 9338 kHz at 1317 but the jamming followed on Feb 17.
9635.75 VIETNAM. VoVietnam - Son Tay. Beautiful signal (although with a slight audio hum) on Feb 17 for the domestic Network 1 service in Vietnamese. News at 1204, ID at 1210 then commentary/interview.
9680.05 INDONESIA. RRI - Cimanggis. Light chat and discussion program in Indonesian for the domestic service at 1350, good signal on Feb 17, and rarely on the assigned frequency.
9735 TAIWAN. RTI - Paochung. Indonesian service with reports and discussions at 1435. Fair signal with QRM splash from stronger CRI 9730 and BBC-Kranji 9740 on Feb 17.
9910 Open Radio North Korea - Site unconfirmed. Jammers started at 1228 before the station had signed on at 1230. Occasional talk coming through but the jamming was quite effective on this occasion, Feb 17. Is this Yangi Yul (Tajikistan)?
9955 USA. WRMI - Okeechobee, FL. The Wave Scan DX program at 1215, but a fairly weak signal here on Feb 17.
11860 Voice of Wilderness - Site Unconfirmed. Korean religious programming with prayer and soft piano music in the background at 1324. Co-channel QRM RFI-Issoudun in Russian and R. Havana in Spanish. QRM is reduced with RFI's s/off 1330. Is this via Sri Lanka?….it's a strong signal on Feb 17.
12015 IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. VoMongolia is still off the air so this freq is "owned" by Iran for their Hindi service at 1445 with a mighty big signal on Feb 17.
15140 OMAN. R. Sultanate of Oman - Thumrayt. S/on 1400 with no anncts or ID, straight into a series of American rock/pop songs. Finally, there was the briefest of ID's at 1411 as "This is the Sultanate of Oman Radio", then more music. Good signal and easy listening on Feb 17.
15553 TAJIKISTAN. VoTibet - Yangi Yul. Noted at 1309 here, in the clear with no jamming until 1314, but still made it through OK …..until CNR caught up at 1319 by using 15555 on Feb 17.
15537 TAJIKISTAN. VoTibet - Yangi Yul. Talks at 1220, fair signal, although there was some Chinese jamming on 15535……so, not really jamming at all as the two signals could be easily separated using SSB mode, s/off at 1230 on Feb 17.
15568 TAJIKISTAN. VoTibet - Yangi Yul. Tibetan programming at 1235, fair signal but with jamming from a strong CNR1 on 15570. Then at 1240, it jumped to 15562 leaving CNR behind and providing a good signal in the clear. Then CNR found them again at 1249, however still remaining 2kHz apart by using 15560, Feb 17.
15575.02 KOREA REP. KBS World R - Kimjae. Interval signal (remember those??) at 1257, then English to NAm at 1300, lovely signal and nice programming, on Feb 17.
