LOGBOOK: EQUATORIAL GUINEA and YEMEN

EQUATORIAL GUINEA and more…..

Some excellent DX has been heard over the past week, including Equatorial Guinea, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Brazil, and lots of other stations. In all, 21 countries are represented here! Read on….

4940   SAO TOME. VOA - Pinheira. Very weak signal at s/on 2030 for the 30 min Hausa news service on weekdays. Such a contrast when compared to the powerhouse signal which is 4930 VOA - Moepeng Hill on at the same time, Mar 18.

5005   EQUATORIAL GUINEA. R. TV de Guinea Ecuatorial - Bata. Weak signal at 2035 featuring fabulous jivey Afro dance music and occasional Spanish anncts. Best heard in USB due to TVI, and finally faded by 2055. Nice to hear this one again, not too regular here! Mar 18.

5905   GERMANY. RFE/RL - Lampertheim. NF (ex 6170) for Russian service, noted at 1935 and running // 7225 (also Lampertheim) which was stronger on Mar 18. This can also be heard with a good signal on the other // freq of 7460 via Iranawila.

5910   JAPAN. Shiokaze - Yamata. Japanese service on Weds at 1615, NF ex 5975 and fair level with some splash from 5915 CRI's Hindi service via Kashi on Mar 12.

5915   ZAMBIA. ZNBC - Lusaka. Program of African choral music at 1617, down low under CRI's Hindi service. Wait till 1700 when CRI has gone and reception is much better, Mar 12.

6135   YEMEN. Yemen Radio - Sana'a. Can't be heard here until the Korean jammer switches off, which on Mar 18 was at 1858. This revealed a fair signal from the English service of Sana'a with several news items, then ID and address before s/off at 1900.

6260   UZBEKISTAN. CVC VoAsia - Tashkent. Strong carrier but the audio was somewhat down (as often seems to be the case with Tashkent txers). Hindi programming at 1922, Mar 18.

7445   TAIWAN. RTI - Paochung. Thai service to SEAs at 1545 with ID after a song, strong signal with only light QRM from co-channel CNR 8's Kazakh service. Runs // 9660 but not as well-heard there on Mar 12.

7515   UZBEKISTAN. Voice of Martyrs - Tashkent. Korean commentaries at 1608, although jamming was present the signal was pushing through it quite nicely on Mar 12.

9490   THAILAND. RFE/RL - Ban Dung. Noted at 2009 in Russian at fair level. Appears to be a NF (possibly ex 5885 which I can no longer hear), Mar 18.

9565.1   BRAZIL. Super R. Deus é Amor - Curitiba. Peaching and occasional IDs at 2144. Difficult listening on Mar 18 with R. Marti and KSDA also present co-channel 9565, runs // 11764.76 where it's much better there.

9660   TAIWAN. RTI - Kouhu. Thai service at 1550, but difficult listening as its sandwiched between strong signals from Romania on 9655 and Turkey on 9665. Runs // 7445 on Mar 12.

9775   PHILIPPINES. R. Free Chosun - Palauig. Smashed together with CNR 2 but the Korean service was easily identified against the more dominant co-channel Mandarin programming at 1502. Amazing Grace sung in Korean at 1510, but poor level on Mar 12.

11850   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Bangla service s/on 1600 with ID and news. Excellent signal on Mar 12. EiBi lists this as Tibetan but that was the situation several months ago, definitely in Bangla now.

13580   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Dhakar. English service with a music program at 1848. NF and s/off at 1901 followed by 4 minutes of tone signal before finally switching off. Strong signal but audio could be clearer on Mar 18.
