A14 SCHEDULE CHANGES - PART 1

There have been plenty of new frequencies and other changes over the past week for the A14 transmission period. Most of the movements noted so far appear to be working well, although there are the inevitable handful of broadcast clashes that occasionally occur. This is the first part of a multi-part post, reporting observations made here at Mount Evelyn. There are 93 listings here! The second part will be posted in the next few days. I hope you find these notes useful in your DXing.

5860   KUWAIT. R. Farda - Kuwait. Farsi service with ID at 2047, NF ex 5850 and excellent reception on Apr 2.

5875   THAILAND. VOA - Ban Dung. Korean at 2006, new site ex Tinang, fair with beeping jamming  and // 5900-Tinang where there was no jamming! Apr 4.

5890   NTH MARIANA IS. RFA - Tinian. Mandarin service now here at 2050, under very strong Firedrake jamming, NF on Apr 2.

5900   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Korean service at 2055 with news, NF and fair signal on Apr 2.

5930   ENGLAND. VoV - Woofferton. Vietnamese service to Eu 2057, now 1 hour earlier and fair with QRM CNR 5 on 5925, Apr 2.

5995   KUWAIT. RFE/RL - Kuwait. Russian service at 2015, NF and fair Apr 4.

6035   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. Russian service at 2017, NF and possibly ex 4005, good on Apr 4.

6080   BOTSWANA. VOA - Moepeng Hill. African service in English at 2115 with the "Classic Rock Show", servicing the needs of the ageing shortwave listener community! Good to see!!  HFCC now listing this as Botswana, previously in B13 it was Pinheira, Sao Tome. Good healthy signal and all over CNR 1 on Apr 2.

6180   SRI LANKA. AWR - Trincomalee. Javanese religious programming at 2218. If I'm not wrong, this appears to be a new time and freq for this language. Fair till s/off 2230 on Apr 2.

7205   FRANCE & CHINA. RFI - Issoudun in French to WAf and CRI - Xian in English to SAf at 2145, fair signals and both at equal level here. I was hoping they'd fix this problem for A14, but alas hope faded once I tuned in this morning! Obviously, they think it's such a great frequency that neither broadcaster is willing to give it up…..or something like that!! Maybe it's just not a problem in the respective target zones, although I find this hard to imagine, depending on where you live in that magnificent continent!! Apr 2. 

9420   IRAN. VOIRI - Zahedan. Now here for the all-night Arabic service between 1620 and 0220 to NAf. NF ex 6060, fair to poor signal at 2215 with some audio distortion and hum on Apr 5.

9460   UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. BBC - Dhabayya. Kinyarwanda service at 1838, NF ex 9410 A'Seela. However, QRM from Turkey co-channel to Eu which has also moved here, Apr 4.

9460   TURKEY. VoT - Emirler. At 1840 in Turkish to Eu for the service between 1600 and 2100.  NF ex 5980, but finds itself clashing with BBC Meyerton from 1630, and then BBC Dhabayya from 1830 to 1900. May not be a problem in their respective target areas, but could probably have been handled better! Apr 4.

9535   CHINA. CRI - Xian. Japanese service to EAs at 2230, NF and possibly ex 5985, poor level on Apr 5.

9570   SPAIN. REE - Noblejas. Spanish to Af noted at 2240, NF ex 7265, fair to poor on Apr 5. 

9570   THAILAND. VOA - Ban Dung. English to EAs, NF but only audible here after REE s/off at 2257, poor signal on Apr 5.

9600   SOUTH AFRICA. AWR - Meyerton. The Swahili version of "A Closer Walk With Thee" at 1724, NF ex 11770, fair level on Apr 4.

9610   UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. RA - Dhabayya. At 2205, a live broadcast with Phil Kafcaloudes in Apia, Samoa. Nice program giving insights into Pacific Island life - interviews and music. With the exception of about one minute when the audio feed appeared to be lost (at 2207), it was an excellent signal on this NF ex 9890 and // 9660, Apr 2.

9610   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. Tachelhit service to NAf at 1951, NF ex 6195, fair on Apr 4.

9645   VATICAN. Vatican R - SM Galeria. S/on 2040 for Arabic service to NAf and ME, NF ex 9755 and 1 hour earlier, powerful signal on Apr 2.

9720   IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. Qur'an at 2225 for the start of the Indonesian service, NF (ex 11830?) and excellent signal on Apr 2.

9740   ROMANIA. RRI - Tiganesti. Spanish to SAm 2340, NF and possibly ex 13590 and now 1 hr earlier for A14. Fair to poor with QRM BBC-Kranji co-channel, Apr 5.

9740   SINGAPORE. BBC - Kranji. English to SEAs scheduled 2300-0100, noted at 2340 but under the dominant co-channel Tiganesti until that station s/off 2355, then BBC is in the clear on Apr 5.

9765   ROMANIA. RRI - Galbeni. English service to Britain at 2230, NF and fair to poor signal on Apr 2. Runs // 9790 via Tiganesti to Japan, but heard here at about the same strength as 9765. Also noted just prior to s/off 2355 in Spanish for SAm, NF ex 9525, Apr 5.

9830   TURKEY. VoTurkey - Emirler. English service to ENAm with Turkish pops at 2232, NF and a poor signal here until s/off 2257, mixed with CNR 1 on Apr 2.

9845   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Mandarin service at 2240. I don't know why they chose this NF when CNR 1 was already there from B13!! Selfie jamming perhaps?? ;-) Apr 2.

9850   ALBANIA. R. Tirana - Shijak. Albanian service to NAm at s/on 2300, NF ex 7465 and now one hour earlier for A14. Very weak signal, I wouldn't have picked it if it hadn't been for the IS breaking through before the 2300 s/on, Apr 2. 

9855   SRI LANKA. VOA - Iranwila. Tibetan service at 0005, NF, weak with light noise jamming on Apr 6.

11605   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. Arabic to ME at 1900 s/on, NF and at excellent strength on Apr 4.

11660   IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. Mandarin service at 0012 to s/off 0022, NF ex 6110, poor on Apr 6.

11695   ALBANIA. CRI - Cerrik. French to WAf at 1823, NF and probably ex 7360 or 7385, QRM RNZI's DRM service on 11690, Apr 4.

11700   SINGAPORE. BBC - Kranji. 30-min Burmese service noted at 0024 then changes to Bangla at 0030. NF ex 12025 but fair to poor signal on Apr 6.

11705   ARMENIA. BBC - Erevan. At 1830 s/on for the 30-min service in the HFCC-listed Kinyarwanda language to EAf, NF ex 11875 Dhabayya, strong on Apr 4.

11710   EGYPT. R. Cairo - Abis. Horrible audio for a service that I am guessing was in Spanish at 0045 after the AIR s/off, NF ex 12080 at 241˚, poor signal and // 12070 on Apr 6

11790   SOUTH AFRICA. AWR - Meyerton. Fair to good signal in the Fulah language (a.k.a. Fulfulde) at 1948 to WAf, NF ex 15260 on Apr 4.

11830   FRANCE. AWR - Issoudun. French to CAf at s/on 2000, NF ex 11755-Meyerton, fair on Apr 4.

11840   SOUTH AFRICA. AWR - Meyerton. English service to EAf at 1848 with the spiritual "Somebody's Knocking At Your Door", NF ex 11830 and a fair strength on Apr 4.

11840   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. Arabic service to NAf at 1904, NF ex 9535 and good signal, but much stronger on their // 11605 - also via Nauen because the 130 azimuth better suits Australia SP. Apr 4.

11865   IRAN VOIRI - Kamalabad. Mandarin service 2350, NF ex 7325, good on Apr 5.

11880   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. Arabic to NAf at 0610. Appears to be a NF and a new service at this time, gigantic signal on Apr 2.

11945   FRANCE. AWR - Issoudun. At 1814 with ID in the Wolof language to  WAf, NF ex 11860, fair level on Apr 4.

11955   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. Hausa service to WAf at s/on 0500, NF ex 9630, solid signal on Apr 2. Also at 2100 s/on for English to WAf, NF ex 9830 but only fair level at this time, Apr 2. And again, at 1916 in Hausa to CAf, NF ex 9690 and strong on Apr 4. Finally, at 2005 in Dyula to WAf, NF ex 9770 and good on Apr 4.

11965   JAPAN. NHK - Yamata. Japanese to ME and NAf at 1920, NF ex 9670 and a strong signal with some multi-path echo on Apr 4.

11975   ROMANIA. RRI - Galbeni. Romanian service to Eu at 1923, NF ex 7430, booming signal on Apr 4.

11985   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. Albanian service to Eu at 1856, NF ex 9420, good on Apr 4.

12005   SRI LANKA. VOA - Iranwila. Tigrinya service to EAf with news at 1927, then ID before s/off at 1930. NF and probably ex 9320 Iranwila, good reception on Apr 4.

12025   RWANDA. VOA - Kigali. S/on 1930 in Portuguese to SAf with a massive signal, NF ex 12070 on Apr 4.

12055   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. Arabic service to NAf at s/off 1858, NF ex 11860 and good signal on Apr 4.

12070   ENGLAND. IBRA R. - Woofferton. Preaching at 1938 in Shuwa Arabic (a.k.a Chadian Arabic) in the service to Chad. This language sounds quite different to "normal" Arabic with a lot less of that clearing of the throat sound :-). Noted to s/off 1945, NF ex 9635 and a lovely signal on Apr 4.

12070   EGYPT. R. Cairo - Abis. Marginally better audio than the // 11710 for this Spanish service to CAm. Time pips and ID at 0100. NF ex 11760 at 286˚, Apr 6.

13580   MADAGASCAR. BBC -  Talata Volonondry. English news to EAf at 0605. This appears to be both at NF ex 17640, and new site ex Mahe, fair on Apr 2.

13635   TURKEY. VoTurkey - Emirler. Turkish service to Eu at 0842, NF and a fair signal on Apr 2.

13650   JAPAN. NHK - Yamata. Japanese to SEAs, NF and good signal on Apr 2.

13660   OMAN. BBC - A'Seela. English to ME at 0450, NF at poor level on Apr 2.

13710   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. Turkish service at 0458, NF (ex 7400?) and good signal on Apr 2.

13710   ALBANIA. CRI - Cerrik. English service with "In The Spotlight" program at 0850, NF to Eu, fair level on Apr 2.

13740   IRAN. VOIRI - Ahwaz. Dari service at 0505, NF (ex 11740) but weak on Apr 2.

13790   NTH MARIANA IS. RFA - Agignan Pt. Mandarin service at 0508, NF but weak with deep fades on Apr 2.

13860   GERMANY. R. Farda - Lampertheim. Farsi service at 0511, NF (not sure but it could be ex 9430) and good signal on Apr 2.

15140   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. French service to NAf at 0815, NF ex 15145, excellent signal on Apr 2.

15155   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. French service to WAf s/on 2030, NF ex 9830, fair signal Apr 2.

15170   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. Multi language anncts at the start of the txion at 1730, then into the Kabyle service to NAf, NF ex 11860, fair level on Apr 4.

15190   USA. Overcomer Ministry - Okeechobee, FL. English service at 0520, NF on Apr 2.

15205   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. At 1953 in the Igbo language to CAf, NF ex 11750 and fair on Apr 4.

15220   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. At 1955 in French to CAf, NF ex 15240, fair to poor on Apr 4.

15225   GERMANY. AWR - Nauen. Arabic service to NAf at 0523, NF and strong signal on Apr 2. And again at 0830 in Tachelhit with s/on anncts, NF for this service ex 15145, at fair level but with splatter from a booming CRI 15230 on Apr 2.

15225   SRI LANKA. AWR - Trincomalee. Chinese service to EAs at 0104. NF ex 17520-Guam and a fair signal with multi-path echo on Apr 6.

15230   CHINA. CRI - Xian. Cantonese service to EAs at 0527, NF and fair to poor on Apr 2.

15265   THAILAND. VOA - Ban Dung. Tibetan service at 0529, NF, fair to poor with some equally poor jamming on Apr 2.

15300   AUSTRALIA. RA - Shepparton. English to Central Sth Pacific at 0531, NF and fair on Apr 2.

15310   IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. Bosnian service at 0534, NF and quite strong on Apr 2. 

15310   BBC - Kranji. Bangla service to SEAs at s/on 0030, NF and possibly ex 7325-Nakhon Sawan. Quite a pronounced multi-path echo at this location with several good signals on Apr 6! ;-)

15360   GERMANY. R. Mashaal - Nauen. Pashto service with ID at 0535, NF ex 13580 and strong signal on Apr 2. 

15420   UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. BBC - Dhabayya. English to EAf at 0448, new site ex Mahe, good signal Apr 2.

15430   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. Spanish to Eu at 0538, NF (ex 15310 Sirjan) and excellent signal on Apr. 2.

15510   ENGLAND. IBRA R. - Woofferton. Arabic service to EAf, NF ex 9635 and fair to poor on Apr 4.

15540   CHINA. CNR 2- Lingshi. I believe this might be an NF at 0540, fair on Apr 2.

15560   THAILAND. VOA - Ban Dung. Kurdish service to EAs at 0546, NF and replaces VOA's Tibetan service at this time from the B13 period, fair to poor on Apr 2.

15570   VATICAN. Vatican R - SM Galeria. NF (perhaps ex 7360?) for the 30-min Portuguese service, noted at 0549 at good strength but with some CNR 11 mixed in, Apr 2.

15595   VATICAN. Vatican R - SM Galeria. Latin mass now here at 0552, new time ex 0630, booming signal on Apr 2.

15615   NTH MARIANA IS. RFA - Tinian. Mandarin at 0554, fair and at equal strength to the CNR jamming on Apr 2.

15680   GERMANY. R. Farda - Biblis. Farsi service with ID at 0557, NF and a great signal on Apr 2.

15720   FRANCE. VOA - Issoudun. Portuguese service at 1810, NF ex 17655 Moepeng Hill, good signal on Apr 4. 

15750   IRAN. VOIRI - Zahedan. Arabic service to NAf at 0559 with ID, NF ex 17840 and fair on Apr 2.

15785   CHINA. CRI - Xian. Mandarin IS and ID at 0600, NF and strong on Apr 2.

15790   OMAN. BBC - A'Seela. Arabic news at 0602, NF and fair on Apr 2.

17800   PALAU. RA - Medorn. English to Indonesia 0445, NF ex 17840 and good level on Apr 2.

17870   OMAN. BBC - A'Seela. News in Pashto at 0836, NF and probably ex 17720 via Nakhon Sawan, Weak signal on Apr 2. At 1030, the site changes to Nakhon Sawan for continuation of the Pashto service.

21505   NTH MARIANA IS. RFA - Tinian. Mandarin 0400-0500 with jamming, strong signal on this NF, Apr 2.

21525   IRAN. VOIRI - Sirjan. Swahili service to C & SAf at 0856, NF and fair level on Apr 2. 

21530   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. Tibetan service with jamming 0400-0500, strong on this NF, Apr 2.

21695   PHILIPPINES. VOA - Tinang. S/on 0858 for the Mandarin service, NF and a booming signal. CNR jamming began precisely at the end of the 0900 time pips on Apr 2.

21790   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. NF and runs // to 21525 for Swahili as noted at 0903 on Apr 2, good signal.
