WWV TESTS ON 25 mHz
WWV TESTS ON 25 mHz
Thanks to a note from top Finnish DXer Mauno Ritola in the WRTH Facebook page, he's alerted us to the following announcement on the time and frequency station WWV.NOTICE: Experimental 25 MHz WWV Broadcast
As of Friday, April 4, 2014 WWV has resumed broadcasting on 25 MHz on a limited, experimental basis. The broadcast consists of the normal WWV signal heard on all other WWV frequencies, at the same level of accuracy.
Current 25 MHz Broadcast Specifications (subject to change):
Schedule: variable; as an experimental broadcast, the 25 MHz signal is not continuous. It will typically be on the air from approximately 1500 – 2100 UTC Mondays through Fridays, but may operate outside these hours as well. The broadcast may be interrupted or suspended without notice.
Radiated Power: varies; no more than 2500 W
Antenna: broadband monopole, coordinates: 40 deg. 40' 50.8"N, 105 deg. 02' 32.6" W

It will be interesting to see if we can hear this signal at Mount Evelyn. I expect there will be little chance between 1500 and 2100 for its 2.5kW signal (although our chances rise slightly after 2000). But if they transmit during other times, then there is a possibility we maybe able to hear something. However, with summer approaching in the northern hemisphere, this frequency could be heard quite extensively.
73's and good luck!

25000 USA. WWV - Fort Collins CO. Peeping through with a weak but clear signal at 2140, audible only on one of my three antennas. Pleasantly surprised to hear it before the impending winter closes down the band for the next 6 months!! Apr 11.
