HOT AFRICAN AND LATIN AMERICAN DX!!
Considering that propagation conditions have been quite variable in the past few days, it's been pleasing to see that the winter DX has continued at Mount Evelyn. Earlier in the week, solar flux numbers reached 175 at its highest point but is now tracking around the 111 mark. So we've had impressive signals coming through on the higher frequencies on one day, but some poor signal propagation on other days. There have also been a few solar storms thrown in for good measure! However, it pays to keep trying, even in poor conditions, because often some surprise signals can make it through to the receiver!
This post continues on from the one posted about a week ago, entitled Plenty of South American DX.
3310 BOLIVIA. R. Mosoj Chaski - Cochabamba. Briefly heard at 0915 with lively music and talk at quite a reasonable level through the noise, but faded and quickly disappeared by 0925, June 10. And again on June 14 with songs and a fair signal at 0940.
4915.02 BRAZIL. R. Difusora Macapá - Macapá. One of those dual (and usually duelling!!) Brazilian channels at 0935 with Macapá here and R. Daqui on 4914.94 approx, creating a significant het and not much else. Noted to past 1010 on June 12. Last year, I didn't hear Macapá at all, so nice to see it appearing this time around, with excitable Brazilian pops.
9645.4 BRAZIL. R. Bandeirantes - São Paulo. Makes it occasionally here during our afternoons around 0530 onwards. Hets with the much stronger Vatican R during their Arabic service 0645-0705 but then in the clear, as on June 13.
17830 SOUTH AFRICA. BBC - Meyerton. BBC WS news then Business Daily to CAf at 0730; good signal with multi-path echo on June 13 when solar flux was 175.
73 and have a great weekend everyone,
Rob Wagner VK3BVW
