FASCINATING YOUTUBE VIDEO JUST RELEASED!


 The US Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) held a long meeting on August 13. Video of part two of this meeting has just been released and featured a presentation on the current work undertaken by Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. This type of presentation is what the BBG calls a "deep dive" (....jargon warning!!).  

 The presentation is really quite fascinating! It offers insights into the activities of RFE/RL journalists and staff. With many large conflicts currently being engaged around the globe, there are numerous issues that RFE/RL report on daily to radio listeners, television viewers and Internet surfers. They argue a strong case for their existence (and perhaps survival???) because of the urgent need for accurate information gathering and dissemination.

 The presentation gives a wonderful insight into the importance of this news network. While a considerable amount of time is focused on the harnessing of 'new' technologies in the reporting process, there is still much that's relevant to the shortwave services of RFE/RL. 

 The presentation is a combination of a short video, perspectives of RFE/RL journalists and the network's directors. Later, there is a discussion between the presenters and the BBG where additional questions are asked about how best to communicate with people in Russia and the surrounding republics.

 The main part of the YouTube video commences at 1:10 min and concludes at 41:00 min. Additional discussion within the BBG meeting concludes at 51:00 min. The remainder of the video is not really that important, so you'll probably want to skip that!
