THE FORGOTTEN LOGS

THE FORGOTTEN LOGS!

Before I left for my winter seaside holiday, I did some listening at home. I had planned to post these on the blog but forgot all about them….till just now.

EQUIPMENT:
Yaesu FTDX 3000, Kenwood TS2000, Yaesu FRG100, Double Bazooka antennas for 80 and 40 metres, Par EF-SWL End Fed antenna, BHI NEIM1031 Digital Noise Eliminating Module, MFJ-1026 Noise Cancelling Module, Tokyo Hi-Power ATU.

3310   BOLIVIA. R. Mosoj Chaski - Cochabamba. Spanish heard (also sometimes has Quechua, but not on this occasion) with talks, possibly local news? First noted at f/in 0930, strengthened by 1045 to past 1100. July 16.

4055   GUATEMALA. R. Verdad - Chiquimula. S/on 0953 with ID and daily program notes. Fair to poor signal but actually doing quite well in the atmospheric noise for its lowly 800 watts on July 16.

4940   SAO TOMÉ. VOA - Pinheira. Carrier on at 2027, ID and Hausa programming from 2030, weak signal and no where near as strong as Moepeng Hill 4930, July 15.

6070   CANADA. CFRX - Toronto. Mostly local news at 1000 (6am Toronto time), then adverts. Always great to hear this 1kW slice of morning Canadian broadcasting. Fair to poor signal, and best listening in LSB to avoid QRM from NBC-Brandon on July 16.

6075   AUSTRALIA. NBC/PNG - Brandon QLD. At 1015 with Pacific Games broadcast between PNG and New Caledonia, excellent signal on July 16.

9420   GREECE. Helliniki Radiophonia - Avlis. Live broadcast from the Greek parliament arguing the toss on EU bailouts. Impassioned speeches and many mentions of democracy at 2045. Good signal and no sign of the scheduled co-channel VOIRI's Arabic service on July 15.

11730   BELARUS. R. Belarus - Minsk. English service at 2145 with a program of folk music, fair to poor signal on July 15.

11764.69   BRAZIL Super R. Deus é Amor - Curitiba. Vigorous Portuguese preaching at 2120, fair signal on July 15.

11790   GUAM. KSDA-AWR - Agat. Korean to EAs at 2140, a good signal but with light jamming on July 15.

11820   SAUDI ARABIA. BSKSA - Riyadh. Arabic speech at 2136, fair signal on July 15.

11850   ENGLAND. VOA - Woofferton. 30-min service in the Bambara language to WAf at s/on 2130, good signal on July 15.

AND IN OTHER NEWS:

AUSTRALIA - PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Well, despite the 15th Pacific Games having concluded four days ago, Papua New Guinea's NBC National Radio is still being heard on 9860 kHz. It's rumoured that PNG is considering (planning? hoping?….) to restart shortwave broadcast back on PNG soil with its own transmitters in 2016. Now THAT would be great!!

Here's my log from last night:

9860 kHz  NBC - Brandon, QLD. Noted at 0740 UTC with a quick ID as "NBC National Radio", then non-stop local pop songs and no other anncts. A good signal but also co-channel QRM from KBS World Radio via Woofferton. However, nothing heard from 12025 kHz which was beamed to the Pacific Islands specifically for the Games. July 21. And again on July 22 at 0550 with non-stop local pops, then news at 0600. Back into music at 0605, good signal and no QRM.

USA
5085 kHz  WTWW - Lebanon TN. Down at the beach, there was a fair to weak signal on the Sangean ATS909 and a random length antenna at 0545 UTC (3:45pm local here). Not sure what programming it was. Definitely NOT The Overcomer Ministry because at 0558 the Doobie Brothers were belting out "Ohhhh…Rockin' down the highway……". Then some talkback chatter at 0607. Nice to hear this so early on July 22.

INDONESIA
A quick note received from Ron Howard (CA, USA) today reports:

3905 kHz  RRI Merauke. Very nice to find them still broadcasting post-Ramadan. Recently has been the strongest RRI station heard; much better than 3324.88  RRI Palangkaraya or 4869.88  RRI Wamena. BTW - RRI Ternate did not broadcast at all this year during Ramadan as they normally have done in past years.  (Thanks Ron!)

73 and good DX everyone!
