HOLIDAY LOGGINGS FROM LAKES ENTRANCE
After my brief Stony Creek DXpedition in the East Gippsland bush (see my last post), it was back to the holiday accommodation at the beautiful town of Lakes Entrance. In my apartment, the noise level was surprisingly low compared with noise levels back home. That is, once I found the switches to the kitchen downlights - they were emitting a terrible RF hash until I turned them off!The receiver was the Kenwood TS2000, the internal antenna was a random wire draped around the lounge room, down the hallway and into the bedroom. Evening and middle-of-the-night listening sessions on August 13 revealed the following DX catches:
4809.95 PERU. R. Logos - Chazuta, Tarapoto. Peruvian music with a dance or traditional feel at 0954, weak signal and just a little down on its registered frequency.
4905 TIBET. PBS Xizang. English service noted at 1650 with songs, then an ID at 1657. Back into Tibetan at 1700. A fair signal and // 6130, 7255, and 9590 kHz also heard.
4965 BRAZIL. R. Alvorada - Parintins AM. Pleasant instrumental music at 1009 then a string of anncts. Rarely heard this year so it was great to copy its weak signal.
5952.4 BOLIVIA. R. Pio Doce - Siglo Veinte, Llallagua. Weak signal with a long talk program and no music at 1020.
9525.96 INDONESIA. RRI - Cimanggis. Acting on a tip from Ron Howard, I found RRI now back on this frequency at 1635 with the Arabic service. This station has been missing for more than five months. Although the signal here was not strong, it was quite readable. Occasional mentions of Jakarta. Ron reports that it commenced operations on Aug 12. Good to see it back again, perhaps with now completed repairs. Aug 13.

11735 TANZANIA. Zanzibar BC - Dole. At 1725 with a local song in the Swahili service, weak signal at this time, but usually gets stronger from 1900 onwards.
11855 BULGARIA. Dimtse Radio Erena - Kostinbrod. S/on 1700 with a brief ID and talk in the Oromo language for Eritrea, then some brief music at 1706. A good signal.
15150.05 VATICAN. R. Dabanga - SM Galeria. A little off-frequency but a good signal at 1600 in Sudanese Arabic to EAf, many IDs. The // 15550 outlet was also well heard and also via the Vatican relay. I'm not sure why they run both freqs to the same target area on this band at the same time!
15245.03 FRANCE. Voice of Assenna - Issoudun. Telephone interview program at 1710 in the Tigrinya language. Very good signal (scheduled for Mon, Thurs and Sat).

15250 CHINA. CRI - Urumqi. English to ME at 1605, good signal.
15260 AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. Urdu service to Pakistan, a big signal at 1608.
15330 ENGLAND. BBC - Woofferton. Tamil service to SAs at 1611 to s/off 1615, fair signal.
15370 VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. Russian service to EEu at 1616, strong signal.
15395 GERMANY. Athmeeya Yatra Radio - Nauen. The opening of the Hindi service with ID and a song at 1617, very strong.
15425 PHILIPPINES. R. Free Sarawak - Palauig. A fair signal at 1130 with a talk program in the Iban language.
15570 VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. Swahili service to EAf at 1620, good signal.
15595 VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. Daily English service at 1615-1630 to ME, good signal.
15825 USA. WWCR - Nashville TN. An awful version of the song "By the Waters of the Galilee" (way too much vibrato on the accompanying organ) at 1627, WWCR ID at 1630, poor signal.

17580 FRANCE. Voice of Khaatumo - Issoudun. Noted in Somali at 1715 with a short song then into talk, mentions of Somalia throughout. A fair to poor signal, and it was the only station audible on this band at this time.
17845 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. R. Ergo - Dhabayya. A weak signal came up out of the static at 1217 for several minutes then gone for a minute, then back again at 1221. This on-and-off operation continued throughout the transmission. I eventually discovered that the transmitter seemed to be misbehaving, and that this was not some strange propagation effect. Programming consisted of Somali talks and occasional funky pop songs. Monitored till eventual f/out at 1235, scheduled s/off is 1300.
17860 TAJIKISTAN. Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok - Dushanbe. 30 min service in Khmer noted at 1140 with a talk program, slight echo on the audio (not sure if this was some studio enhanced thing or some multi path signal phenomena). No movement registered on the S-meter but the signal was quite copyable. A song at 1157, then ID and web address at 1158, s/off at 1200. The web address for this station is http://www.khmer-mchas-srok.org/index.php?lang=en.
17880 GERMANY. R. Farda - Biblis. Music program at 1203, fair level.
18980 KUWAIT. RFA - Kuwait. Noted at 1210 with a weak signal in Tibetan, no jamming heard on this occasion
73 and have a great weekend everyone,
Rob Wagner VK3BVW
