STATION NEWS AND THE LOG BOOK
October 30, 2015

The new transmission period - B15 - began last weekend and I have noted quite a few changes, both for the English services and in many other languages. And there are still more changes out there on the shortwave bands that I haven't discovered yet! So this will be the first of several instalments listing schedule changes and new frequencies (NFs). Here's what I've noted so far in the past week:

B15 SCHEDULE CHANGES

5885   THAILAND. RFE/RL - Ban Dung. Russian now here for the B15 season at 2015, NF but I've got no idea what it's replacing! Good signal and runs // 5925 (via Lampertheim) which also happens to be a NF! Oct 29.

 5955   CHINA. CRI - Xian. S/on 1000 in English to EAs till 1100, NF and fair signal on Oct 25.

 5980   TURKEY. VOT - Emirler. Turkish to Eu at 2035, good signal and NF (I think it's ex 9460 kHz), Oct 29.

 5990   ROMANIA. RRI - Galbeni. Romanian service to SEu at 2050, god signal and NF (ex 11975), Oct 29.

 6050   TURKEY. VoT - Emirler. English to Eu at 1945, NF (probably ex 9785) and now on an hour later than for the A15 period. Good signal, Oct 25. Also at 2115 in French to WAf, NF (ex 7360), poor signal and co-channel QRM from CNR on Oct 29.

 7465   ALBANIA. R. Tirana - Shijiak. S/on 2100 with the 30-min English service to Eu. New time (ex 2000 s/on) for the summer season, good signal on Oct 26.

 9460   ASCENSION IS. BBC - Ascension. WS to CAf and SAf at 0635, NF and a weak signal on Oct 26.

 9610.03   TURKEY. VoTurkey - Emirler. English to As s/on 2130. Booming signal. NF (ex 7205), off-frequency slightly, and new s/on time (ex 2030), Oct 26.

 9615   ALASKA. KNLS - Anchor Point. S/on 1000 in English to EAs, NF (ex 11870), good signal on Oct 25.

 5970   TURKEY. VoT - Emirler. French to WEu at s/on 2030, fair signal. NF (ex 9635) and one hour later for the B15 season, Oct 29.

 9675   FRANCE. RFI - Issoudun. English to NAf (170˚) at 0625, NF (ex 13725) and a fair signal on Oct 26.

 9915   ENGLAND. BBC - Woofferton. English to WAf noted at 1910 with a fair signal. The scheduled s/on is now 1800 which is two hours earlier than for the A15 period, Oct 25.

 9915   ASCENSION IS. BBC - Ascension. WS to WAf at 0615, NF (ex 7445) but a weak signal on Oct 26.

 11790   ROMANIA. RRI - Tiganesti. English to SAs 0400 s/on til 0500, good signal and NF (ex 11800 and ex 0300-0400 UTC), Oct 27.

 11895   THAILAND. BBC - Nakhon Sawan. S/on 1000 for the English service to As till s/off 1200, NF (perhaps ex 21660), good signal on Oct 25.

 11980   AUSTRIA. AWR - Moosbrunn. English at 2100 for the 30-min service to WAf, fair signal and NF (ex 11955), Oct 26.

 13580   KUWAIT. R. Mashaal - Kuwait. Pashto service at 0945, NF and fair signal on Oct 27.

 13590   SAO TOMÉ. VOA - Pinheira. English to CAf at 1945, NF for this time period and fair signal on Oct 29.

 13695   FRANCE.  RFI - Issoudun. French to WAf at 1953 to s/off 1959. NF for this time period and I think it replaces 13740 kHz, good signal on Oct 29.

 13710   SRI LANKA. R. Farda - Iranawila. Now here at 0955, ID at 1000 in Farsi and music program, fair signal, NF and scheduled until 1100 when it's scheduled to switch to the Biblis (Germany) site. Runs // 15690 which is also the Iranawila site. Oct 27.

 13735   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. English to SAf at 2003, NF (ex 11885), fair to poor signal here on Oct 29.

 13750   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. Chanting (perhaps Koran although it didn't quite should like the usual prayers) at 1012, Arabic anncts, NF (probably ex 13785) but a weak signal on Oct 27.

 15210   CHINA. CRI - Kunming. English to Oc at 0915, excellent signal and NF (// 17690). Also 15185 is a NF and running // but much weaker there due to beam headed to SAs. Oct 27.

 15430   CHINA. CRI - Kashi. NF for English service to SAs s/on 0600, fair signal and // 15350 also heard on Oct 26.

 15470   VATICAN. Vatican R. - Tinang. English to SAs 0300-0330, new site (previously via Tashkent), fair signal on Oct 27.

 15580   VATICAN. VOA - SM Galeria. African music programming at 2040 and monitored till s/off 2100. Believed to be from the Vatican site at this time (ex Moepeng Hill), fair signal and changes to the Greenville NC site at 2100 which improves reception here considerably! Runs // 6080 also heard on Oct 26.

 15580   KUWAIT. VOA - Kuwait. English to Af at 0340 with a fair signal. This is now 0300-0500 via Kuwait, then 0500-0700 via Moepeng Hill. During A15 the whole four-hour transmission was via Botswana. Oct 27.

 17640   MADAGASCAR. BBC - Talata Volonondry. S/on 0600 with WS programming to EAf. NF (ex 13580) and  a good signal on Oct 26.

 17690   CHINA. CRI - Jinhua. English to Oc at 0910, booming signal at S9 +20dB, NF (probably ex 13790), Oct 27.

 17770   THAILAND. RFE/RL - Ban Dung. Russian s/on 0400 to EAs till 0700. Previously this transmission was from Tinang and Kuwait during A15. Poor signal on Oct 27.

 21580   ROMANIA. RRI - Tiganesti. French at s/on 1100, NF and fair signal on Oct 25.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS NOTED THIS WEEK

4765   TAJIKISTAN. R. Tajikistan - Yangi Yul. A commentary in Tajik at 1935, the service is to CAs. Weak signal this morning despite low noise on the band, Oct 25.

 4810   ARMENIA. Armenian National R. - Yerevan. The 30-min daily broadcast noted at 1924 to s/off 1930 in Arabic to ME, fair signal on Oct 25.

 4930   BOTSWANA. VOA - Moepeng Hill. English language lessons at 1920 to SAf, good signal and low noise on Oct 25.

 6080   SAO TOMÉ. VOA - Pinheira. Scheduled here in English to CAf with fabulous African music program and IDs. Apparently this is now from Sao Tomé (ex Moepeng Hill). Excellent signal on Oct 26.

 13580   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Dhaka. Bangla service at 1930 with ID and local music, beamed to Eu with a fair signal here on Oct 29.

 21510   IRAN. VOIRI - Kamalabad. English to SAs at 1040, fair signal on Oct 25.

 21560   VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. S/on 1050 with multi language IDs, then The Angelus at 1100, on Suns only and fair signal on Oct 25.

 21670   SAUDI ARABIA. BSKSA - Riyadh. Indonesian interview program at 1032, good signal, Oct 25.
