STATION NEWS

BRAZIL
Rádio Bandeirantes - Lenildo da Silva reports that this station is no longer operating on shortwave (6090 and 9645 kHz) due to financial difficulties. Some staff were laid off in August, including members of the Sports News department (which is a substantial part of Bandeirantes programming). 11925 kHz has been inactive for quite some time now. This is sad news, as Rádio Bandeirantes has operated for many decades and been an important part of Brazilian broadcasting on shortwave. Here at Mount Evelyn, nothing has been heard in the past few days on 9645 kHz.

Rádio Voz Missionária - In his Extreme DX blog, Lenildo also tells us that RVM has purchased its first DRM transmitter to operate in the 25 metre band. You can read more about this at the RVM website: http://www.radiovozmissionaria.com.br/?p=1 under the title Gideões Missionários da Última Hora compra Transmissor de Rádio! Thank you Lenildo for both these news items.

HFCC CONFERENCE
The recent HFCC-ASBU conference in Brisbane saw presentations from a number of organisations including Sentech, Ampegon, the DRM consortium, Continental Electronics, and others. There was also a presentation from Radio Australia. These are now available in the form of PowerPoint slides and PDFs from the HFCC website. I personally found the Ampegon and Sentech data quite interesting. Also, it sounds like some people aren't happy about the path Radio Australia has taken over recent years! Anyway, it's all there for downloading! Here's the link:  B15 Brisbane

KVOH Antennas aimed towards Cuba.
USA
Over at the Facebook page of the National Association of Shortwave Broadcasters (NASB), 10  new photos have been posted showing station KVOH in the process of installing a new Harris 100-kw transmitter in addition to its old RCA 50-kw unit. There's also some shots of the antenna system. Worth a look at: https://www.facebook.com/nasbshortwave

FROM THE LOG BOOK

There have been some fabulous reception conditions over the past few days with signals coming in from South America and Asia on the tropical bands.

3185   USA. WWRB - Morrison TN. Gospel rock songs at 1157, ID and program change at 1200, quite a good signal on Sept 25.

3275.02   PAPUA NEW GUINEA. R. Southern Highlands - Mendi. Some weird electronic pop music at 1205, Tok Pisin anncts, then a regular pop song. Plenty of carrier but the audio was down a little. This station was missing for most of the year, so it's great to have it back in operation again, Sept 25.

3324.92   INDONESIA. RRI - Palangkaraya. Discussion program in Indonesian at 1216, a weak signal on Sept 25.

3905   PAPUA NEW GUINEA. NBC Milne Bay - Alotau. American pop ballad at 1012, very solid signal on Sept 27.

3945   VANUATU. R. Vanuatu - Emten Lagoon. American religious program at 1013, a good signal. The parallel 7260 kHz was also heard but not as strong there and had QRM from Xinjiang PBS on the same freq, Sept 27.

4055   GUATEMALA. R. Verdad - Chiquimula. Music programming at 1032, poor signal under static, Sept 29.

4750   INDONESIA. RRI - Makassar. This station has recently been reactivated after an absence from the airwaves. Noted on several occasions including Sept 27 at 1025 with Indonesian easy listening music and occasional anncts. Good signal and great to hear they have returned again.

4774.9   PERU. R. Tarma - Tarma, Junín. Lively popular songs with that distinctive Latin sound at 1015, short rapid-fire anncts, strong signal but so are the local static crashes, Sept 29.

4810   PERU. R. Logos - Tarapoto. Quite a strong signal on Sept 27 with a rather quaint and long Andean song at 1055, ID and extended anncts at 1100, then into more music at 1105.

4824.46   PERU. La Voz de la Selva - Iquitos. A weak signal at 1105 with possibly a news bulletin, Sept 30.

4845   BRAZIL. R. Cultura do Amazonas - Manaus. Weak signal with a music program at 1010 under high local atmospheric static, Sept 29.

4865   BRAZIL. R. Verdes Florestas - Cruzerio do Sul. Fading in around 1025 with lengthy talks and occasional light ballad selections. Here in south eastern Australia, this station always fades in much later than other Brazilians due to its far westerly location. Weak signal and didn't get much stronger on this occasion, Sept 30.

4869.91   INDONESIA. RRI - Wamena. Laid-back easy listening instrumental music and Indonesian anncts at 1030, fair signal on Sept 30.

4885.03   BRAZIL. R. Difusora Acreana - Rio Branco. Hymn-style song at 1001 then preaching at 1003. Good to hear it on the air again, fair signal in the noise on Sept 24 and a good signal on Sept 29 at 1000 UTC.

4895   INDIA. AIR - Kurseong. Hindi talks and occasional short instrumental music interludes at 1140, a good signal for this early in the evening, Sept 25.

4955   PERU. R. Cultural Amauta - Huanta. Earnest talks (perhaps a Sunday religious discussion?) at 1110, a ballad at 1115, fair to poor signal in the noise on Sept 27.

4970   INDIA. AIR - Shillong. Program of Indian ballads and pop songs at 1150, good signal on Sept 25.

4985.5   PERU. R. Voz Cristiana - Chilca, Huancayo. Weak signal at 1130, usually better than this. Talks and music on Sept 27.

5025   CUBA. R. Rebelde - Bauta. Comes in quite strongly at 0640 (4:40pm here) before ABC - Katherine NT has had a chance to appear, with songs and listener phone-ins. ABC isn't heard till near sunset between Katherine NT and Mount Evelyn VIC. From around 0810 f/in, it's causes considerable QRM with Rebelde. Then ABC s/off at 0830, leaving Cuba to the channel for the rest of the evening. Sept 30.

6010.12   COLOMBIA. La Voz de tu Conciencia - Lomalinda, Puerto Lleras. Weak signal at 0705 with mainly a talk program, perhaps news reports, Sept 30.

6059.75   UNIDENTIFIED. Perhaps Super Rádio Deus é Amor - Curitiba? Very low level signal at 0715 with music and talk. I have not heard this outlet at all during 2015, so maybe its been reactivated? Sept 30.

7250   INDIA. AIR - Delhi. Hindi service to SAs, a weak signal at 1125, eventual s/off at 1140, Sept 30.

16 Metre Band Mini-Survey

In addition, reception on on the higher frequencies has also improved, as evidenced in this quick band-scan of the 16mb between 1030 and 1130 UTC on September 29.

17490   CHINA. CRI - Kashi. English news at 1110 to Eu, fair signal.
