STATION NEWS
PAPUA NEW GUINEA.Over the past week, many people around the world have monitored the test transmissions of the NBC service from Radio Bougainville at the Kubu transmitter site on Buka Island. Both 6020 and 3325 kHz have been in use at various times of the day. Here at Mount Evelyn, a booming signal was heard last night (Feb 7) at 1040 UTC with an interview program in Tok Pisin. Then the religious song "Here I am Lord" at 1058. ID as "NBC Bougainville" at 1102. However, nothing was heard on 3325 kHz at that time except for the Indonesian RRI Palangkaraya. The station has also been heard in California by Ron Howard and in Texas by Roland Richter between 1200 and 1400 on one or both frequencies, as well as in Japan and Europe. In addition, Timm Breyel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has today received an email verification confirming the station's operations. Radio Bougainville is expected to complete its tests and be on regular service by the end of this month. Watch out for it!
FROM THE LOG BOOK
13 METRE BAND WIDE OPENOver the past 24 hours, 21 mHz has been especially good throughout much of the day and evening here at Mount Evelyn. For example, all of these broadcasters were coming in last night, and some of the signals were quite strong! Some listeners in the northern hemisphere will not be able to hear these stations listed below in this time period between 1030 and 1230 UTC. However, check at other times of the day in your part of the world to see if reception is possible. The 10 and 15 metre amateur bands have also been especially active from Asia and Europe.

CLANDESTINE BROADCASTING
TAJIKISTAN. 17860 kHz - Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok - Dushanbe. While monitoring the enhanced propagation conditions on 21 mHz last night (Feb 7), I also noted Khmer M'Chas Grok with their s/on at 1130. The service opened with introductory music, a station ID in the Khmer (Cambodian) language, and short bursts of local Cambodian instrumental music. Then there was a long talk with many mentions of Kampuchea. A wonderful signal and easy listening. In the past, the station schedule has been restricted to Sundays and Thursdays between 1130 and 1200 on this frequency. HOWEVER.....I now note on their website that this schedule will be expanded to a daily service from February 14. So, keep a watch out for this!http://www.khmer-mchas-srok.org/index.php?lang=en
73 and good DX to you all,
