DX QUICK TIPS & OTHER NEWS
September 22, 2018

Learned ladies and gentlemen of the DX fraternity!.....Rumours of the death of shortwave DXing have been greatly exaggerated! That is if the following news is any indication! 😉😀

INDONESIA
The Radio Republik Indonesia's transmitter site at Ternate, in the Maluku Islands has been heard weakly in Japan by Hiroyuki Komatsubara on 3345 kHz. Try between 1000 and 1500 s/off. This station has been reactivated after a lengthy absence....but for how long?! Thanks to Hiroyuki.

MALDIVE ISLANDS
Here's one for the mediumwave DXers amongst us. Sarath Weerakoon in Sri Lanka advises that the Voice of the Maldives on 1449 kHz is currently off air and in the process of relocating its antennas from the eastern edge of Male to Thilafushi, about 7 km from the Maldivian capital. Initial reports were that the station was due back in operation by September 15, but there have been some delays and it is expected to take a few more weeks before completion. Sarath says the "...the move to relocate the transmitter and antenna field commenced under a project financed by the Japanese government via Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid Scheme. Japanese assistance will improve not only the transmission efficiency of Voice of Maldives but also the service provided to the people in remote islands through enhanced disaster warning and management capacity".  Thanks Sarath!

NEPAL
The Union of Asian DXers reports that Radio Nepal has returned to shortwave on the frequency of 5005 kHz between the hours of 0815 and 1115 UTC (times can vary). According to a station official, Radio Nepal resumed shortwave broadcasts using a 10 kw transmitter at Khumaltar, Lalitpur in Kathmandu. Propagationally, this will be a difficult catch for many of us because of the low frequency with the local operating times in the mid to late afternoons Kathmandu time. However, if the broadcasts are extended into their evenings, then there is every chance that this could be heard globally. One to watch! My thanks to Sarath Weerakoon and Victor Goonetilleke.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA
According to Manuel Méndez in the NoticiasDX group, the religious station, Wantok Radio Light will return to shortwave on October 6, using its old frequency of 7325 kHz. The last time I heard this station was in January 2016. It broadcasts on FM 96.3, and some programs could also be heard occasionally via the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corp, Honiara on 5020 kHz. The station's website is https://wantokradio.org/. My thanks to Mauno Ritola from the WRTH Facebook group for passing on this news.
