DX QUICK TIPS
October 6, 2018

A partial scan of the 60-metre band several evenings ago revealed signals from India and Bangladesh. Higher up in the 49-metre band was a fair signal from the tiny country of Bhutan. In the 31-metre band, we heard Bangladesh again, along with the clandestine Furusato no Kaze on the same frequency. And another clandestine, National Unity Radio, was also noted on 9 mHz. Some interesting reception, to be sure!

πŸ‘ 4750   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Shavar. Bangla service at 1515 with talks and chat, good signal but some co-channel QRM from CNR 1- Hailar, Inner Mongolia. Oct 4.

❗✅✅ 4835   INDIA. AIR - Gangtok. Tentative logging. At 1500 with sub-continent dance music and no anncts. A tough one to hear from this location but pleasing to copy it when the co-channel Ozy R. is not on air. Weak signal in the noise, Oct 4.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ 4869.94   INDIA. R. Sedaye Kashmir - Delhi (Kingsway). Lively Kashmiri songs at 1455, fair signal, Oct 4.

πŸ‘ 4910   INDIA. AIR - Jaipur, Rajasthan. Hindi songs at 1447 in the Northern service, fair to weak signal in the noise, Oct 4.

πŸ‘ 4920   INDIA. AIR - Chennai (Madras). Southern service talk programming in possibly Tamil at 1440 with heavy co-channel QRM from PBS Xizang-Lhasa (Tibet) in Tibetan with songs. Oct 4.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ 4950   INDIA. AIR Radio Kashmir - Srinagar. A weak signal in the presumed Kashmiri language at 1430 with chat and occasional songs. Oct 4.

πŸ‘ 5010   INDIA. AIR - Thiruvananthapuram. A bad background hum on the signal at 1410 for the service in Malayalam/Hindi. An unaccompanied song at 1416. Fair signal, Oct 4. See the YouTube video below for clips of these stations mentioned above:

πŸ‘ 5040   INDIA. AIR - Jeypore. A mix of local music and Hindi anncts at 1425, fair signal on Oct 4.

❗✅✅ 6035   BHUTAN. Bhutan Broadcasting Service - Thimphu. Monitored from 1110 with a long talk/discussion program in a local language. Unfortunately, I had to leave the radio shack at 1135 and returned at 1205 to find the frequency empty, so the s/off must have occurred after 1135 and before 1200. A fair signal with no co-channel PBS Yunnan signal to cause QRM. Oct 5.  See the YouTube video below:

πŸ‘ 9455   BANGLADESH. Bangladesh Betar - Dhaka.  News to SAs in Nepali at 1323, instrumental music interlude at 1324. Good signal, Oct 4.

πŸ‘ 9455   TAIWAN. Furusato no Kaze - Tamshui. S/on 1330 in Japanese to Korea, weak signal under the co-channel Bangladesh until that s/off at 1345, the Furusato was in the clear until eventual s/off 1357. Oct 4. See the YouTube video below for a recording of these two stations:

πŸ‘ 9885   TAJIKISTAN. National Unity R. - Dushanbe. Interview in Korean at 1350 to NEAs with jamming, fair signal, Oct 4. See the YouTube video below:

❓❓ 9930   PALAU. T8WH - Medorn. The Que Me Radio program in Vietnamese on Fridays is scheduled here at 1200-1230, but not this week! Instead, there was some fast-talking American preacher woman in full flight. Has the schedule changed?  Good signal Oct 5.

9955   UZBEKISTAN. AWR - Tashkent. Closing anncts at 1358 in the lilting sing-song Hmong language, fair signal, Oct 4.

11580   GUAM. FEBA India - Agana. Kannada service to SAs at 1340 with quiet preaching and Indian style hymn. S/off 1345. Good signal, Oct 4.

11705   PALAU.   R. Japan - Medorn. S/on 1400 in English to SEAs, fair signal with news, Oct 4.

73 and have a great weekend everyone,

Rob Wagner VK3BVW
