DX QUICK TIPS AND A SPECIAL QSL CARD - February 18, 2019
SUNDAY ONLY SERVICES
Some shortwave broadcasters run different schedules on the weekends. A few go off the air while others have a different Saturday and/or Sunday only schedule. This past weekend, I took a look at a few of the Sunday-only broadcasts that could be heard here at Mount Evelyn. This is by-no-means a complete list, but rather just a quick Sunday scan of the bands. If you haven't heard some of these before, well then.....you'll have to wait until NEXT Sunday! 😊😊
NOTE: The symbol // means the station is running parallel (additional) frequencies for that broadcast.

A LOVELY SURPRISE IN THE MAIL
Back on December 22, I made a QSO with Ulis K3LU on the 40-meter ham band using the FT8 digital mode. With a few stations, I make a point of sending an actual QSL card (rather than an eQSL or a simple confirmation via LoTW), which I did for the contact with K3LU. Last week, my friend, Ulis in Maryland, USA returned the favour....and more!....with an envelope stuffed with cards and information. Ulis and I have been following each other on Twitter for some time, but I didn't make the connection between our 40m contact and our Twitter association. For many years, Ulis has been, like me, been an avid shortwave radio listener as well as an active amateur radio operator. Indeed, he is also a QSL manager for other event stations and enclosed samples of those QSLs in the mail.Check out his fantastic home page on QRZ.com, which includes a photo of Ulis standing next to the WINB transmitter in Red Lion, PA. Check it out!!
