DX QUICK TIPS

A few DX items of note since the start of the new year, including some changes to All India Radio's broadcasting schedule:

6115 TAIWAN. National Unity R. - Tamsui. S/on 1100 Korean to NEAs, fair signal, Jan 4.

6170.12 D.P.R.KOREA. VoKorea - Kujang. S/on 1000 English to SAm. Good signal but better in USB due to splash from CNR 6's Hakka service on 6165, also riding high on 6170, Jan 5.

9490   FRANCE. R. Republica - Issoudun. 0320 Spanish to Cuba, music programming, poor signal but interesting to hear it in mid-summer, Jan 2.

9510   VATICAN. VOA - SM Galeria. 0330-0400 Somali to EAf, weak signal via the long path, which is in darkness for 3/4 of the way, but still unusual reception for here in mid-summer, Jan 2.

9510   OMAN. BBC - Al Seela. S/on 0400 English WS to ME, news and commentaries, weak signal, Jan 2.

9680   USA. KNLS - Anchor Point AK. 1045 in English with American preaching, fair signal to s/off 1059, Jan 5.

9760   USA. KNLS - Anchor Point AK. S/on 1300 Mandarin to NEAs NF (ex 9535), weak signal until s/off 1400, Jan 11.

9790   FRANCE. R. France Int'l - Issoudun. 0400-0500 French to CAf, weak signal and unusual mid-summer reception, Jan 2.

9795   PHILIPPINES. FEBC - Iba. 1106 in Vietnamese to SEAs, good signal but severe siren jamming also present at equal strength. I've often wondered why the Vietnamese government jams poor old FEBC? The station seems harmless enough! Jan 5.

9835   MALAYSIA. RTVM - Kajang. 1112 in Malay with Sarawak FM music programming. Fair signal, Jan 5.

9840   VIETNAM. VoV5 - Son Tay. 1120 in Japanese news to EAs, fair signal, Jan 5.

9874.81   INDIA. AIR - Delhi. S/on 0100 Tibetan to EAs. Additional service for B21. Weak signal and distorted audio, Jan 6.

11559.7   INDIA. AIR - Delhi. 0905 Nepali to CAs, NF (ex 9949.8), fair signal, distorted audio plus audio dropouts, Jan 8.

11589.77   INDIA. AIR - Delhi. Unscheduled English news noted at 1030, cricket news at 1035, business at 1040. Into the scheduled Tibetan service at 1045. NF (ex 11925) and a good signal except for splash from CNR 2 on 11600 until that signed off at 1100, leaving AIR in the clear, Jan 3.

11905   SRI LANKA. SLBC - Trincomalee. 0200-0230 Hindi to SAs with music programming. Fair to poor signal with co-channel QRM from the CNR 6 Hakka service. This is a pity because SLBC's program is far more pleasant to listen to. Their earlier service on this freq at 0030-0100 in Bangla is better received here because the channel is clear. Jan 2.

11940   TAIWAN. R. NUG - Baozhong. S/on 1400, full ID and freq anncts in English, then into Burmese programming. NF, excellent signal through to s/off 1430, Jan 11.

13710   FRANCE. Manara R. Int'l - Issoudun. 0705 in Hausa to CAf. Fair signal except for the mile-wide DRM hash from CRI, so Manara was best monitored in LSB, Jan 13.

13795   INDIA. AIR - Bengaluru. S/on 1030 in Mandarin to EAs, this seems to be adding an extra service to the one that takes place at 2345. Very good signal, Jan 3.

15180   D.P.R.KOREA. VoKorea - Kujang. 0625 in French to central SAm (even though it is the middle of the night in that part of the world!). Selections of slow ballads. Fair to poor signal, Jan 13.

15320   TAIWAN. R. Taiwan Int'l - Baozhong. 0331 in English to SEAs, pop music show. At 0400 into Cantonese with CNR 1 jamming kicking in at 0401, but RTI still had the better signal. Fair to good signal, Jan 6.

15413.17v   KUWAIT. R. Kuwait - Sulaibiyah. 0600 in Arabic (not the previously scheduled English). Within 20 minutes, it had wobbled and fallen its way down to 15408.75 kHz. On its way down, it collided with CRI's mile-wide DRM service to Oc on 15415. My, how technical standards have fallen! Jan 13.

17790   TAIWAN. R. NUG - Baozhong. S/on 0200-0230 Burmese to Myanmar, with an English ID at the opening of the transmission. NF (ex 17710). The station's Facebook page indicates this freq change came into effect on Jan 1. Good signal on Jan 7.
