DX QUICK TIPS

Firstly a few monitoring notes from our friend, Ron Howard, Asilomar Beach, CA, USA. Thanks, Ron!

AUSTRALIA

4835 Shortwave Australia - Bendigo VIC. A quick check at 1115 & 1214 UT; very weak signal with EZL music.

5055, Radio 4KZ - Innisfail QLD, 1159 UT; still on the air well past their recently observed cut-off time of a few minutes past 1100. Is this the seasonal schedule change? Believe it went off the air just after 1200? Needs more monitoring.

CHINA

CNR 6 - On new 6010, 1203 UT. Thanks very much to Ralph Perry for the timely alert of this new development; // to the long-standing 6165 CNR6 frequency. Probably missed the sign-on at around 1200, as it was not on the air during earlier monitoring? Did not stay with this to find out if CNR11 is still here later? Needs more monitoring to determine the full CNR6 schedule for 6010.

7210, PBS Yunnan, 1047 UT; played their interval signal of Chinese songs; mixing with VCO1 (a numbers station run by the Chinese Air Defense) that was in LSB; also present seemed to be Sound of Hope (Taiwan) on a slightly lower off-frequency. A royal mess here! It is not uncommon for CNR1 to also be here to jam SOH, but not today.

VANUATU

Radio Vanuatu - Emten Lagoon. 7890 (2nd harmonic), 1051 UT; religious songs till ID & usual list of frequencies in Bislama; followed by National Anthem; audio ending at 1101. Normally I do not re-check after audio ends, but today at 1106, I found RV again with audio (pop songs) till 1109* xmtr cut off. Wonder if this happens every day? 7890 was noted // 3945.

And finally a few observations from me here at Mount Evelyn

5905 D.P.R.KOREA. Echo of Unification - Pyongyang. 1220 Korean to EAs, commentary, good signal, Oct 15.

9670 TAIWAN. R. Dáp Lòi Sông Núi - Paochung. S/on 1230, full ID in Vietnamese with background music. Viet government siren jamming started up at 1231, but Dáp Lòi still cut through quite clearly with a good signal, Oct 15.

11780 BRAZIL. R. Nacional Amazônia - Brasília. 0110 Portuguese with football broadcast. Lots of echo processing on the commentator’s voice! Weak signal, Oct 13.

11860 SAUDI ARABIA. Republic of Yemen R. Sana’a - Riyadh. 0055 songs, 0100 clear Arabic ID, then on-location interview. Fair signal, Oct 13.

11880 USA. KBS World R. - Greenville NC. 0105 Spanish to SAm with news, fair signal, Oct 13.

11905 SRI LANKA. SLBC - Trincomalee. The 0030 and 0200 SLBC services have been off-air for a while now. Jose Jacob tells me that TX #1 has issues that are affecting SLBC, some AWR channels and BBC Bangla 9410 kHz. However, AWR programs via TX #2 are being heard as usual, such as AWR Mandarin 0000 and Amoy 0100, both noted at fair levels here at Mount Evelyn. I look forward to SLBC’s return for their enjoyable music programming. Oct 16. UPDATE: 11905 SLBC - Trincomalee. 0040 UTC to s/off 0058, music programming. Fair signal here in southeastern Australia. Great to see it back after an absence of several weeks. October 22.

12055 PHILIPPINES. FEBC - Bocaue. 0045 to 0100 in the presumed Wa language to SEAs. Wa is spoken in northern Burma and neighbouring parts of Thailand and China by just under one million people. Weak signal, Oct 13.

15549.92 UZBEKISTAN. Voice of the Martyrs - Tashkent. 1210 Korean to EAs with a commentary. The announcer must have been reading text from a computer because I heard the familiar Windows chimes in the middle of the talk. Good signal, Oct 15.

17730 U.A.E. Mizzima Radio - Dhabayya. 1222 Burmese to Myanmar with commentaries. Good signal, Oct 15.

17755 TAIWAN. Mizzima Radio - Tamsui. 0300-0400 Burmese to SEAs with mainly commentaries and Burmese news. Good signal, Oct 5.

17855 SPAIN. REE - Noblejas. 2200 to 2230 the Wednesday English service to NAm. Scheduled for English on Mon/Wed/Fri. Then into French at 2230, fair signal. Also noted with strong signals on 15520 to ME, 11940 to SAm, and 11670 to WAf. Oct 13.
