DX QUICK TIPS
October 3, 2025

The past few weeks have seen a mix of reception conditions. Some nice Brazilian signals were coming through around the equinox - something that we have observed for years now here at Mount Evelyn. But in recent days, we have been subjected to a series of geomagnetic storm conditions rated between G1 and G3. These have caused sudden ionospheric disturbances (SIDs) that have, at times, flattened the shortwave bands, especially frequencies above 7 MHz. However, on each occasion, the band recovered quickly enough to make some decent listening possible.

It's been a while since I've posted a DX Quick Tips update here, so below is a brief summary of some notable listening highlights. DX QUICK TIPS

5025   CUBA. R. Rebelde - Bauta. 0908 A spasm of classical music, then into rapid-fire anncts. It has been barely audible here for months. This is the strongest I've heard in ages. Sep 24.

⭐⭐ 5035   BRAZIL. R. Educação Rural de Coari  - Coari, Amazonas. 1025 Preaching. Occasional short music excerpts. Weak reception at Mt. Evelyn, confirmed via the OA4DFF Kiwi in Lima, Peru. Seems to be a regular service now. Sep 24.

⭐⭐ 5940.27   BRAZIL. Voz Missionária - Camboriú, SC. 0915 Much happy Gospel music with songs such as O Deus de Davi by Duo Paim. Some anncts over the songs. Telephone chats, too. Fair signal but with WWCR splash on 5935. Sep 24.

7530   UZBEKISTAN. Voice of Martyrs - Tashkent. 2105 Korean to NK. Preaching and gospel songs. S/off 2130 after a full ID and web address. Good signal, Oct 2.

7605   UZBEKISTAN. Free North Korea R. - Tashkent. 2040 Korean to NK. Chat and occasional Korean pops. x 7615 and scheduled as *2000-2100*. Good signal to switch off at 20:59:40 after a brief ID. Oct 2.

⭐ 8743   THAILAND. Bangkok Meteorological R. - Bangkok. 0845 Weather forecasts in English and Thai, separated by an interval signal. USB transmission. Ended at 1100, good signal on this freq and the // 6765.1. Sep 30. 

⭐⭐ 9665.04   BRAZIL. Voz Missionária - Camboriú SC. 0735 Pleasant music programming with occasional canned and studio anncts. Fair signal, Sep 28.



9710   VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. 0720 Romanian with liturgy to Eu, Sun only service, good signal. Also noted on 7250, but much weaker there. Sep 28.

11780   BRAZIL. R. Nacional Amazônia - Brasília, DF. 2323 Telephone call-in and rapid chatter from the announcers. Fair signal, Sep 24.

12050   USA. EWTN - Vandiver, AL. 0240 Spanish to SAm with gospel songs. Fair signal, Sep 27.

⭐ 13974   TAIWAN. Xing Xing. 1210 to s/off 1215, Mandarin numbers, fair signal. Only one frequency is operating; nothing is heard on 14944 or 15388. Additionally, no reception was noted at 1100 or 1130 on the usual frequencies 19052, 20025, or 20095 (confirmed via several Asian SDRs as well). Sep 23.



⭐⭐ 15189.82   BRAZIL. R. Inconfidência - Belo Horizonte, MG. 2304, a very weak signal, but the program content suggested football commentary. Reception confirmed via the excellent Kiwi at PY2KNK, Itapeva, SP. I haven't heard it at this time in years! Sep 24.

⭐ 17510   UAE. Mizzima Radio - Dhabayya. 1230-1255 Burmese to SE Asia. Commentaries and news. Returning after an absence and on an NF. Excellent signal, Sep 12.

17720   UAE. Shan News Radio - Dhabayya. S/on 1300 Burmese to Myanmar. Good signal, but with an audio hum in the background. Sep 12.
