GLOBAL TALK AMERICA - New Station!

Suddenly appearing in November is the new Global Talk America. Apparently, programs are produced by ex-VOA Hausa staff in Washington. It primarily targets audiences in West Africa, particularly the Hausa-speaking regions of Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, Cameroon, and Chad. Their core coverage area includes Nigeria — a region with one of the largest concentrations of Hausa speakers in the world. The service also reaches diaspora Hausa-speaking communities in Europe, North America, and the Middle East, who follow Hausa-language news for updates on political, social, and cultural developments back home. It has a constantly updated Facebook page that has a mix of posts in Hausa and English https://www.facebook.com/gtahausa/

Here is the current schedule:

Language Time (UTC) Days Area kHz TX Site
Hausa 0500–0530 daily WAf 6170 Ascension
Hausa 2030–2100 daily WAf 9765 Woofferton

RADYO PILIPINAS RETURNS

There was much excitement amongst the SWL community this week when Radyo Pilipinas returned to the airways after more than eight months off the air due to the suspension of all transmissions at the Philippines transmitter site of Tinang. The Philippine News Agency (Gov) has an interesting article titled "RP world service returns: Filipinos abroad to share their stories on the station's return."

The new schedule is beamed to the Middle East, but the signal is being widely heard across the globe:

English - 0200-0330 daily on 12020, 15640 and 17665

Filipino - 1730-2030 daily on 9370, 9925,  and 12120

Radyo Pilipinas is responding quickly to reception reports, which you can send to dzrp.radyopilipinas@gmail.com

My QSL arrived within a few hours of sending my report:

RADYOYA DENGÊ GEL LEAVES SHORTWAVE

These days, it seems, they come, and they go! This week also saw the closure of the Radio Dengê Gel shortwave transmissions. Transmissions stopped on, or around, December 1, at the same time as this news article appeared: The voice of the revolution, Radyoya Dengê Gel, has ended its broadcasts. The article states:

One of the unshakable cornerstones of the free press, Radyoya Dengê Gel has brought its 23-year broadcasting journey to an end. The radio station that carried the memory of Kurdish media began its journey in 2002 under the name Radyoya Dengê Mezopotamya, continued under the names Dengê Kurdistan and Dengê Welat, and finally, as Dengê Gel, carried its voice from prisons to mountains across Kurdistan.......

....the Kurdish freedom struggle has entered a new phase. Undoubtedly, the role of the press and broadcasting is also changing. The character of the era requires this. It is clear that it cannot proceed with old methods and ways. The press is rebuilding itself with a new perspective in line with the new era.

In recent years, DengêGel transmitted in the lower portion of the 25 mb, between 11500 and 11570 kHz via the Gavar transmitter site in Armenia. Early reports indicate that jamming of Dengê Gel from Radio Recep Erdogan (or simply “the Turkish jammer”) has also stopped.

VIETNAMESE DOMESTIC SHORTWAVE OUTLETS

I am beginning some research on the Voice of Vietnam's domestic and regional outlets. It appears that many of them are not operating at the moment. Below are the ones I should be hearing;

5925  Xuan Mai, Lang Son Province. 50kW - 2145-0100, 0300-0600, 1100-1500 VoV-1

5975  Me Tri, Hanoi. 50 kW - 2145-0100, 0400-0600, 1100-1500  VOV-1

6020  Buon Ma Thuot, Dac Lac Province. 20 kW -  2200-1530 VOV-4

6165  Xuan Mai, Lang Son Province 50 kW -  2200-2300 0130-0200, 1145-1200, 1230-1400 VOV-4

7210  Buon Ma Thuot, Dac Lac Province. 20 kW - 2145-1700 VOV-1

7435  Son Tay, Hanoi. 100 kW - 2145-1030 VOV-1

9635  Son Tay, Hanoi 100 kW - 24 hours VOV-1

9850  Xuan Mai, Lang Son Province 50 kW-  0400-0530 VOV-4

11720  Son Tay, Hanoi 100 kW - 1030-1330 VOV-4

11720  Xuan Mai, Lang Son Province. 50 kW - 1030-1300

I don't know if those stations are still on the air. We need some detective work to see which ones are still operating. The trap is that many of these frequencies also have various Chinese stations on them at the same time! Careful ID'ing is required to sort it out. Please let me know if and when you can hear these stations.

DX TIPS

6035   CHINA. Yunnan Radio Int’l - Kunming.  0949 Mandarin. Severe QRM from CNR 1 on 6030, minimised by tuning in USB.

6075   USA. KNLS - Anchor Point, AK. S/on 0800 English to EAs. Surprisingly good signal for late Spring, early evening propagation.

7235 TAIWAN. National Unity Radio - Tamsui. S/on 1100 Korean to DPRK. Talk and music selections. Good signal.

9710   VATICAN. Vatican R. - SM Galeria. S/on 0500 Russian, 0520 Ukrainian to s/off 0540 to EEu. Weak level and one of the two signals on the band in the mid-afternoon, the other being Turkey on 9650.

11780   IRAN. VoIRI - Sirjan. 0530 Turkish to ME. Usual problem - plenty of carrier, but audio levels are well down.

11660   TURKEY. VoTurkey - Emirler. 0545 Turkish to ME. Fair signal, beaming 150 degrees. A weaker signal than the // 9650, which is beaming 310 degrees to Eu, allowing us to grab it via the mostly in-darkness long path.

11830   JAPAN. R.Japan - Yamata. 0620 Mandariin, then Korean at 0630 to s/off 0650. Poor signal,

73 and good DX to you!
